I am upstate absorbing sunshine and fresh air (and buying jazz records), so I will not be doing my WFMU show tonight. But I enlisted my friend Mike Sin to fill the overnight airwaves with wondrous Optical Sound. Catch it late tonight / early tomorrow from 3 to 6am. I'll be back with you next week!

I'm playing again tonight with Stephanie Marie & the Double-Knit 3. I'm busting out the brushes for a short and chill set opening for Towncryer, 7:30pm at Cowgirl Seahorse down by South Street Seaport.

Poster for tonight's gig, with a shadowy image of a guitarist and bassist playing in a tiny club.

I'm taking a couple of weeks from my WFMU show to get out of the city and catch up on sleep. Gianna Guerino will fill in for me tonight (early tomorrow) from 3 to 6am, and Mike Sin is lined up for next weekend. Take good care of them, overnight listeners!

Uncivil war: When Louisiana attacks its most valuable asset, the city of New Orleans There has been tension between New Orleans and the rest of the state for a long time. It’s a blue city in a red state. But what we’re witnessing now isn’t just tension, it’s open warfare.

I'm at An Beal Bocht in the Bronx tonight with Time Machine Appetizer, playing soul jazz and surf rock with gusto. Retro groovalistic instrumentals from 8 to 10pm, with Merritt Jacob (guitar), Dave Archer (keyboards), Dan Asher (bass), and me on drums and cymbals.

Gig poster for this week's Time Machine Appetizer gig. It's adapted from the cover of a 1940s radio industry trade magazine. The poster sows an image of an operator sitting at a large console, surrounded by other broadcast or telecom equipment.
