Such events are, of course, AMAZING for interested parties and stakeholders. They likewise do wonders for the social lives, status, and fundraising of politicians who back the events. But the Olympics, World Cup, Super Bowls, All-Star Games, F1 races, etc, etc do nothing for overall local economies.
A reminder that huge events which politicians and local boosters talk up as boons for local economies do nothing of the sort. They cannibalize other economic activity and cause locals to avoid the places where events are held. It's a big lie, it's always been a big lie, and the boosters know it.

Pre-draft, I ended up putting him fourth. I was not some 'believer' in what he was stunted in at Kansas or that his high school tape shows a wildly different player. So I can't be accused of stubbornly sticking to my priors. He did soooo many amazing things out there!
