"These young girls that are sitting at games with anti-trans signs, do they understand actually what the real problems are and how they’re being marginalized? We’re still not in a space where we have equality."
![“Years ago, I encouraged the WNBA leadership: what’s our stance? What are we going to do when this occurs? Are we going to be ready? Are we going to be reactionary? And so I think it would make sense for our league to be leaders in this space,” she said. ” … I’ve chosen to educate myself about the space. I’ve chosen to listen to transgender families, and what I know is exclusion is not the answer. We’ve got to find a common ground and be inclusive. That’s the space. I think if we all come from that.”
Reeve then pondered the real issues facing women’s sports and whether the people attempting to “defend” them even know what they are.
“The [transgender]issue isn’t as big as the issues that we have in women’s sports,” she continued. “Whether it’s cisgender men that have held us down for years in spaces like being able to have access to facilities and uniforms and locker rooms, all the things that these young girls that are sitting at games with anti-trans signs, do they understand actually what the real problems are and how they’re being marginalized? We’re still not in a space where we have equality. We don’t even have the Equal Rights Amendment in all 50 states, right? So there’s real issues. 4. It's less fine to waste your expensive diverse cast by terrible screen-writing, giving them zero convincing characterization or attempt to make us care about the relationships, and tokenism.
7. The film centers Odysseus's guilt over his war crimes, but never shows us the POV of his victims, and instead glorifies the perpetrator for feeling bad about himself. I found this unsatisfying ethically and worse, imaginatively, because Damon's character is given only one mood (Troubled).
because i think we so often lament our public healthcare i’ll say i dropped in post gym, loaded up with grocery bags, to an xray clinic to set up an appointment, instead they saw me in 5 minutes and sent me on my way. when it works it works and i’m so grateful for it
aside from the blowback to wilson’s review reinforcing the concern that no one understands criticism anymore, her pointing out that nolan flattens the story’s female characters is… nolan 101

Those seem like things that are either true or aren't, but a lot of people haven't read The Odyssey while Wilson ABSOLUTELY HAS lol

I am not a “sports person” but have an interest in the historical intersection of gender and sports. Because it reveals gender inequalities, which highlight existing social tensions in society. This essay is excellent

It'll be a long, long, long time until it is not, in some way, a political (small p!) act whenever women play sports. Modern sports infrastructure was not built to include them; their appearance is always transgressive, suspect, and scrutinized.
"The reason the league appears to “perpetuate drama” is because the person watching and holding that opinion has a hard time taking the sport at face value. For them, there will always be something slightly performative about women playing a sport that’s baseline is men."
there is a new rash of very young looking teenagers in toronto standing on street corners (dundas and dufferin today) holding anti abortion boards, or driving trucks with anti abortion propaganda on them, and the timing and placement makes no sense that i almost feel bad for them
