Q4: #HorrorWritersChat I already personally believe a lot of our cryptids, legendary monsters, and bogeymen may well be megafauna and lost peoples from pre-history. Give me a stone-aged Pumpkinhead, where the “monster” came from, how it was bound, and how time changed it…

Q3: #HorrorWritersChat I lifted a moment directly from my life to write a scene in my haunted house novel. A mother saying goodbye to her son at an airport. A few of their lines of dialogue are some of the last things I said to my own mom face to face. A current WIP is based on my time in a band.

Q2: #HorrorWritersChat What was going on in the world, from slang to weather, if I’m writing in an era, becomes important for immersion and accuracy. I want to give my reader a real sense of place and attitudes. I.E. In the House of In Between has Houdini and ref’s the Vietnam draft as it happened.

Q1: #HorrorWritersChat JD Buffington here, author of horror and scifi—even historical retellings and imaginings! John Langan’s The Fisherman goes a little local historical. But I also really like the Sony Resistence video games (monsters during WWII), and Star Trek is full of historical horror.

Professional writer organizations should not send out pro-AI propaganda in the form of tantrum-having "essays" to their members, and I don't think that's controversial.

As a member of the HWA, I must admit I don’t always read every newsletter, but seeing a pro-AI oped made it in? I started reading. I stopped where I highlighted in this screenshot.

Technology keeps changing, oh-so-rapidly these days. We went from screaming about having to pump our own gas to screaming about self-checkouts. (Following highlighted by poster) Back in the day, film studios were upset at the invention of home television sets, musicians were upset about electric guitars and synthesizers, filmmakers were upset about YouTube, visual artists were upset about photography, photographers were upset about Photoshop, and now writers are screaming about AI.

To O’Mara, the diet is not just a temporary means of losing weight but a way to eat for good. He has been doing it for 10 years, and credits it with turning his life around. At one point in our conversation he pulled up the Bristol Stool Chart, which ranges from Type 1 (“separate, hard pellets”) to Type 7 (“watery, no solid pieces”). O’Mara is consistently delivering Type 4 (“smooth, soft, like a snake”), with pointed ends, indicative of healthy rectal function, he told me. “When you start eating healthy, you don’t need toilet paper,” he claimed. “Animals in the wild have no residual stool on their anus.” He described a proper bowel movement to me this way: odorless, wipe-free, over in three to seven seconds and “nearly orgasmic.”

“I could have a bowel movement behind a sheet at a dinner party in the corner of the room,” he said, “and nobody would know.”

Fuller story at the attached link. I’ve seen several stories and studies that self-checkout is more expensive and shoppers hate it. I get it for like one or two items and you’re in a hurry, but when WM did away with all cashiers for a bit? Fucking nightmare. We joked about needing pay then. Do it.
