Got some unfortunate news today. Our big project is not being moved into the second phase by the government. It is what is is. I'm just annoyed that our herculean efforts this summer won't pay off. But, at least we know - it worked. It didn't hit metrics, but it worked!

I wonder what it's like to be an academic with the summer off. Because I'm on a 9 month contract, but summer is 1000% fieldwork and I haven't worked less than 50 hrs/week yet. I did take 1 week of vacation, cut short by a family funeral. Definitely been a summer so far.

Not to make a shitpost (hehe) serious, but I am thinking again of the idea that the public health system is “invisible” to people, because we don't notice it when it's working well. Food safety is the same. All things we take for granted. All things that have been dismantled and now we're noticing.
