Applications for our Grant Programs will be reopening soon! 🎉 🌱 BWCB wants to assist our members in reaching their goals and overcoming obstacles that hinder their advancement in the field of #ComputationalBiology. 🔗 Coming February, 2025 🗓️ Applications due March 1, 2025
Hello, I know a few people couldn't make my defense so I’ve made the recording temporarily available on YouTube for the next week or so. My actual dissertation will be under embargo for at least 2 years, and therefore not readily available when I deposit it. youtu.be/vH7ZYsSKy4A?...

I’m defending on November 19th! If you’d like to hear a bit about my research, please let me know in this form and I will send you the meeting information: bit.ly/ja-phd
rMATS-turbo is finally published! Seeing its developments in recent years as a premier tool for hashtag #splicing analysis has been an honor. I'm very excited to see our official documentation of rMATS-turbo in Nature Portfolio Protocols. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
rMATS-turbo: an efficient and flexible computational tool for alternative splicing analysis of large-scale RNA-seq data - Nature Protocols
This protocol provides detailed guidelines for using rMATS-turbo—the latest implementation of the popular software for the discovery and quantification of alternative splicing events from RNA sequenci...

I am giving a talk today to high school students and will introduce #computationalbiology to them. How do you motivate the impact the field has had to students at this stage? I usually talk about what I call the "lifecycle of data", but curious about something more approachable.
Kenia Hale, a predoctoral fellow, and Payton Croskey, a senior, are members of Princeton’s Ida B. Wells Just Data Lab (created by Dr. Ruha Benjamin), where they research ways people of color can resist digital surveillance. They led a project called “Liberatory Technology and Digital Marronage.”
How a New Generation Is Combatting Digital Surveillance
We’ve generally come to accept that our devices are listening to our conversations, our personal data is being tracked and sold, and that law enforcement tracks and stores images of our own faces...

What’s the biggest ML + biology conference happening this year and who can I (@blkwomencompbio) contact on the organizing end?
modern society is so divorced from our food sources that most people who eat pop tarts have never actually killed one themselves
I feel I should do an introduction here soon. Are people still doing those?
I’m officially out of responses for what I want to do after the PhD. I’m reloading between now and 2024, so come back later lol
Excited to be presenting research on DNA methylation and Alcohol Use Disorder (#PB2327, Nov 2nd, 3-5pm) at #ASHG2023. See the rest of my colleagues presentations here: www.rti.org/event/americ... 🧬🖥️
So excited to welcome this group of new BWCB leaders!
Join us in welcoming the newest additions to BWCB's leadership team: Core Team Associates! Associates will work closely with current Coordinators over the next year, learning about BWCB operations and supporting initiatives along the way. Welcome to the team!
We’re already almost halfway to our initial goal of 100 responses in just one day!
Hi there! We're on a mission to capture >= 100 responses from computational biologists in our first CompBio Perspectives Survey. It takes just ~2 minutes to complete and you can find here: forms.gle/D8h9FyJ1eX6Y... Feel free to also pass along to others in your network.
Hey Bluesky, we've entered the chat!
I am so grateful to have attended the first Janssen SODEP Symposium this week as an inaugural Scholar of #Oncology at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson!
Created an #RNAbiology feed to talk RNA science! Let's use it. @onamy.bsky.social @mgblango.bsky.social @graveley.bsky.social @nickingolia.bsky.social @hogglab.bsky.social @quaidmorris.bsky.social @snf.bsky.social @lucksmith.bsky.social
