I'm seeing a local Christian Nationalist church going ahead with the kids' camps in this very unhealthy air AND having a campfire at the camp during a strict burn ban. "Toughen up kids, a little smoke and a campfire while the State has major fires burning all over isn't gonna kill you."

Crowd of kids on bleachers singing around a campfire while the air is heavy with smoke.

A trans couple has been brutalized by a mob, and then the trans woman ended up being arrested afterwards, at a public bathroom in Louisiana. EITM writer S Baum investigates this horrible act of violence in our latest piece. www.erininthemorning.com/p/trans-coup...

Trans Couple Brutalized At Louisiana Park Bathroom, Then Charged By Police

An angry mob allegedly beat them. The police charged them. The municipality voted for one of the most severe anti-trans bathroom ordinances in the country.

I think it was Cory Doctrow who pointed out that SF is a luddite genre in the original sense of the word: Not fearful of tech as such, but cautious and critical of how it's likely to be used. How many SF novels are there (going back to Frankenstein) where the beautiful creation just goes amok?

This is WILD she took sis content bar for bar and in response to being exposed she locked her comments and is pretending nothing is happening. She’s got 100k more followers than the Black content creator she stole from, mind you. Any brands she’s endorsing better think fast smh

I’m just saying, Angela Lansbury would have found out Walter White in the first season. Walter White wouldn’t have lasted an entire Colombo episode.

It’s true, in the past I would have had multiple editors in my inbox asking me to write about the Cunningham stuff. I haven’t gotten a single assignment request. Trans writers used to be tokenized to write about these things but now that the topic is “mainstream,” those bylines go elsewhere.

I need people to understand that for the last half decade that there’s been an ecosystem of trans folks in sports media who have worked unpaid to serve as experts for context, sources and educators on what it’s like for trans athletes, in hopes of potential bylines and contacts. That’s dried up.

So apparently that HWA pro-AI newsletter also uses Indigenous water rights issues as a prop, trivializing the activism by Indigenous peoples to protect our water including specific anti-data centre actions. I guess they figured why not alienate Indigenous horror writers while they’re at it?

“Sure. Sure.

Yes, we know AI is using up resources. So does driving a car or a planes so does building a new home. So do a lot of things. Humans have always used up Earth’s resources and usually not nicely. There are reservations and other Indigenous communities in Canada that have never had clean water and have been ravaged by pipeline construction. But somehow that’s been okay for the past fifty or a hundred years, and very few people scream about that. But suddenly, AI is the enemy, not everything else we’ve been doing all along. Suddenly YOUR water might not be clean, so it’s a Big Deal”.

> Police in Wisconsin used Flock to determine that a man “travels to Michigan frequently,” where marijuana is legal, then back to Wisconsin, where it is illegal. They then used his travel as part of the probable cause justification to search his car for weed; he was arrested on possession charges.

"The vehicle travels to Michigan frequently which is a known source state for marijuana as it is legal there," a probable cause justification reads.

There's something diminishing about living in a world where men's abuse is so ubiquitous and unimpeded, and still women are chided for not thinking enough of men's woes, men's harms, men's feelings. We're constantly asked why we don't tolerate our endless violation with more dignity.

It's demoralizing living in a nonstop Abuse-a-thon: we've had to learn the sordid details of so many men's abhorrent behavior; I mean this summer has been Graham Platner, Andrew Tate, Jared Leto, Max Miller, plus the horrific L.A. rape-murder of the child by the rapper, to name a few lowlights.

In Tucker’s recent interview with his favorite Holocaust-denying “historian,” TC is shocked to learn that the Bolsheviks erected a statue to Judas in Moscow. The only problem is, there is no evidence that this ever happened. But who cares about evidence when you have a fascist narrative to push?

This is a legitimately fascinating piece. The nature of this strife is why the founders took steps to prevent the US devolving into internal conflict over whose interpretation of Christianity was “correct.” But as a non-Christian, the whole situation is off-putting as fuck.

As of last night, there are now *7* pastors, former pastors and seminarians who've become Democratic nominees running for Congress. Some have already won safe Dem seats, and several are in hotly contested races. In multiple cases, the GOP has attacked their faith. religionnews.com/2026/08/04/p...

“I can’t see the point in learning to solve useless problems, or subtracting turnips from turnips, or knowing where Ethiopia is or how to spell February.” And, since no one bothered to explain otherwise, he regarded the process of seeking knowledge as the greatest waste of time of all.

My favorite niche objection to AI is that it's DISincentivizing people to take software updates, which leaves them without important security patches. Previously, we had actually been making progress! Apple liked to bundle new emojis with updates so people were like, ooh, I want to type a burrito!

Your little oopsie "mistakes" had me worrying for a year of my life about my partner going to jail for up to a decade based on lies likely fed to you by the top of the federal government. Show everyone what you're covering up in these emails and texts. There's a reason you don't want them released.
