But then there are moments when you sit back, gaze at your partner with the deepest affection, and send them the look that says, "We made him; he's beautiful; the therapy bills for our missteps will be minimal."

I no longer remember where we were driving to or from, or even if the day had been all that long. Tiny humans have big feelings for all sorts of mundane things. Frankly, so do big humans.

Mini-me 1.0 was losing his mind in the backseat. There was shrieking and sobbing with a level of heartbreak that would make you think he'd been asked to give up a limb. Perhaps someday he'll tell the therapist I asked him to give up a foot, but I'm pretty sure it was something far less dramatic like, "Yes, you must have the car seat buckled".

Inconsolable, despite my efforts to calm him down before my husband opted to leave him on the side of the road, he wailed, "Tell me whyyyyyyyy!?!"

In unison we turned to each other, our eyes locked, and we knew we were in agreement. We threw our heads back and belted out in harmony, "Ain't nothin' but a heartache!"

The poor kid just stared at us, dumbfounded, as we cracked up laughing.

Those are the moments I think we're doing alright.

A dark mountain basin lies beneath a heavy ceiling of rain clouds, where low banks of fog drift through the forested valleys like cool air spilling over unseen ridges. The conifer forest forms a nearly black silhouette against the lighter sky, its jagged treeline emphasizing the softness of the mist that gathers among the trees.

The lake is almost perfectly still, reflecting the clouds, mountains, and forest with only a few faint ripples spreading across the surface. Photograph taken using a macro setting of a white Japanese Anemone in the garden. Took it looking slightly side on so it's easier to see the golden circle of stamens standing proud around the lime green semi-spherical centre. Petals are flat and wide open with minimal ripples on the surface giving some areas of slight shade. The background are the plant's green leaves in soft focus.

Absolutely love these stately flowers. Have them dotted about the garden, and this year some pink ones just in front of the kitchen window so I can see them while I'm washing up. Had a good hour tidying up the garden and stripping back dead / finished stuff yesterday afternoon so grabbed a few minutes with my phone camera.

Friday night on Wards Island there was a joyous celebration of the win, with Mayor Chow leading a chant of "NO JETS!" before we paraded and later burned a jet effigy on the beach while paper mache Doug Ford and his cronies seethed. "Fight or Flight" by Shadowland Theatre, celebrating its 39th year.

It's been awhile since I've had time, but really wanted to take a stab at this week's #PostProcess #ArtChallenge theme of #Ghost. Rock's Iceland shot has been layered with an intentionally unfocused macro shot of part of my dining room chandelier. Details in #AltText #ECK #Photography

A digitally composed image which features a 60s exposure photograph of Icelandic sea stacks by @rjrock.bksy.social layered with an unfocused macro image of a warm white bulb and hexagonal chandelier crystals by me. The result is something approximating mis-remembered details of time and weather.

Both images went through basic edits and tweaks in Affinity using the RAW files before being saved as jpgs with 4000px of length on the long edge (mostly to prevent my laptop exploding). Rock's image was also cropped to a 3:2 format.

The chandelier jpg was added on top of the Iceland image after flipping and rotating it. It was then rotated about 7 degrees off of level and expanded to cover the full background layer in a way that seemed to mimic the angles most likely had the sun been real. The opacity was set at 75% the "Average" blend mode was used.

Further colour and saturation alterations were made to both contributing images. From back to front the layers are:

1. Rock's image with my edits and crop from RAW
a) A recolour layer adjustment using Affinity's "Blue Hour" as a starting point. Opacity 33% and blended with "Multiply".
b) A selective colour layer adjustment which targeted details of the mainland. Yellow and White specifically had their relative Black levels adjusted to -100%. Opacity 100%, normal blend.
c) A HSL Shift layer adjustment of overall saturation by +30%. Opacity 100%, normal blend.
2. Chandelier Image layer. Opacity 75%, blend mode "Average".
a) A HSL Shift layer adjustment. Tweaks made specifically to Saturation and Luminosity of Red, Yellow, Green, and Magenta Hues

This photograph captures the East Pioneer Mountains of southwest Montana in one of their most dramatic moods. The broad alpine skyline is still mantled in late-season snow, while rounded granite summits and sharp cirques stretch across the horizon. Above them, the sky becomes the true spectacle: long, wind-sculpted bands of lenticular clouds lie stacked over the range, while a higher veil of rippling cirrocumulus spreads across the upper atmosphere like finely combed silk. Together they reveal powerful winds flowing at different elevations, even though the landscape below appears calm. These cloud formations are common when strong air is forced over mountain barriers such as the Pioneers.

In the foreground, pale spring grasses cover the high benchlands, emphasizing the transition from open sage country to dark conifer forests that cloak the mountain slopes. The contrast between the muted earth, brilliant snowfields, and deep cobalt sky gives the range a sense of immense scale and quiet strength.

The Pioneer Mountains encompass roughly 2,000 square miles and are divided into the rugged East Pioneers, known for their glaciated peaks and alpine lakes, and the gentler, forested West Pioneers, separated by the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway. The highest summits, including Tweedy Mountain and Torrey Mountain, rise above 11,000 feet.

We take misinformation seriously - every image created with Nano Banana in Google Earth includes the SynthID digital watermark, so if someone is unsure about an image, they can ask the Gemini app or use Lens in Search to see if the image was Al-generated. In addition, we prevent image creation on harmful topics and are continually updating our protections.

One clause in there is checkable tonight, so I checked it. Google prevents image creation on harmful topics. Refugees at a border. A nuclear plant in Iran. A fatal crash on an Amsterdam street. A hospital with a bomb crater in Gaza.

Nothing was refused. No warning, no softened output, no suggestion to try a different prompt.

Now look at the rest of the answer. The watermark is Google’s. The app that reads the watermark is Google’s. The search that reads it is Google’s. Every road out of the problem runs back through the company that built it.

I understand that Google has Google products to run Google checks. Planet Earth is bigger than Google.
