i was told SO many alleged reasons why bagged milk is superior to plastic jugs, including claims it was more eco-friendly, which is just silly. the main reason bags grew popular in Ontario in the first place is that they don't charge a recycling deposit when you buy them (cuz they aren't recyclable)

for most of my life i truly thought bagged milk was just an absurdist meme Americans made up to call Canada weird, alongside jokes about loonies and drinking maple syrup. and then i moved to Ottawa when i was 20, walked into a store, saw the milk bags, and was like "WAIT IT'S REAL?? what the FUCK"

it keeps coming up for some reason, so just to set the record straight for anyone who may be misinformed: BAGGED MILK IS NOT SOLD IN MOST OF CANADA! it's exclusively a thing in Ontario, Quebec, and some other parts of eastern Canada. nobody else here uses bags and rest assured we think it's dumb too
