I'm looking forward to meeting booksellers and other writers/illustrators at ABA Children's Institute this weekend! Hope to see you at the lunch author reception, or just around the convention center.

✨ Take a gander at this! ✨ My next book will be the first in a young chapter book series called THISTLE AND GOOSE! Thistle is a anthropomorphized cat hedge witch, and Goose is… well... a goose. I'll be sharing more about these characters before the first book comes out in Summer '27. Stay tuned!

It’s Banned Books Week, and I don’t need you to buy my book as a solve for it (but buy it if you want to! That’s still extremely cool of you)—I need you to show up for your public libraries and your schools!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated the launch of SNOW KID with me today! Especially the kids who helped design this absolutely haunting snow person. The eyes look deep into your soul. And they never blink...

❄SNOW KID, comes out next Tuesday and is available for pre-order now! Twig was a fun character to work on, and I hope you enjoy their story. It's about change (internal and external) and how we can keep becoming ourselves throughout our lives. AND about playing in the snow.

In front of a colorful, snowy background, a kid made of snow inspects a copy of the book, Snow Kid, that is on the tip of their finger. Above, in white bubble letters is reads, "Snow Kid" and below that in smaller pink type it reads "September 16,2025"

One easy way to support a banned book: Tell the world you're reading it! If you share on social media include a link to somewhere people can get it. Word of mouth is a powerful way to draw attention to books & that takes readers like you shouting about the books you love!

City of Ghosts is still on Netflix, if y’all need something to watch to remind you the power we have to bring light into the world (it’s about Los Angeles and history and ghosts but not in a scary way). Probably will make you cry, but I’ve been told it’s healthy/ happy tears.

I picked up a maple tree seed while walking my dog and I put it in a small pot by the window and yesterday a seedling popped out of the soil! I don't know anything about growing trees, but it's really nice to see this little sprout. It's amazing that something so small and tender can grow so large.

A small, green seedling grows from potting soil in a terracotta pot by a window.

art is not about being correct, it is about a journey, it is a conversation with yourself, with the things that you've seen, with your understanding of them it is interpretation

Anyway, how does book banning/censorship affect writers? It's a direct silencing of our work, our voices. It may have a chilling effect on other writers, especially those who are LGBTQ+ and trans, whose work is disproportionately targeted for banning. It is a violation of our First Amendment rights.
