I thought I’d say Hi 👋 I'm Jess, mum to 2 kids, lover of the outdoors. Passionate about mental health & wellbeing. I've had a somewhat 'squiggly' career- Paediatrician turned primary teacher. Now educator, advocate, keynote speaker. I've not been here for a while so please stop and say hi!

I'm a doctor. I also happen to have experienced mental illness. For too long, I carried this secret with shame, Silenced by stigma. Today is #CrazySocs4Docs Day. A day to remember those we have lost & start conversations about mental health in healthcare. Show me your socks!

She was in her 40s. A resident doctor. Older than all her peers, she was different. She was the one who left on time and didn't bend over backwards to do more. Eyes rolled. People tutted. She wasn't committed. She lacked dedication. Then I became that woman. 🧵👇1/3

I set out to be a clinical doctor forever. Then life happened. I left medicine and, with that, felt completely lost. I have now found my way again, Navigating a path less trodden, But no less fulfilling. Careers are not linear.

Holding onto hope - why was hope left in Pandora’s jar?

Today was my last day at RCPCH. The end of another chapter in my very 'alternative' medical career. There's more than one way to be a doctor, You just have to be willing to take a risk or two.

My RCPCH ID badge

On my way up to Edinburgh for my last RCPCH Thrive Paediatrics event. 2 years of empowering, educating and supporting paediatricians to improve their wellbeing and working lives. Who'd have thought I'd be doing this, But here I am! The next chapter approaches...

I was a junior trainee. He was my senior. Inappropriate sexual comments, propositions, looks... I didn't know what to do and feared the consequences of telling someone... So I did nothing. We must prioritise creating sexually safe environments.

Today, we're running our sexual and psychological safety workshop. Employers now have a legal duty to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harrassment. Education forms a large part of culture change. doctorstraining.com/our-workshop... @doctorsindistress.bsky.social

Exactly 2 years ago, I found the courage to join a choir. I've made friends, Reconnected with a hobby I loved as a child, And embraced my love of musicals. Today we started an 11 minute Wicked medley. Amazing! 🎵

Sheet music to Wicked, what was I made for and Shallow

This is such a brilliant summary and has inspired me to write up some of what have done locally to try and enable team and colleague wellbeing through leadership & system changes. Would truly recommend @jessmorgan.bsky.social @dmannari.bsky.social @petrajana.bsky.social @mindfullmedic.bsky.social
