Wildfire smoke always feels to me like a reverse solar eclipse in the sense that it messes with some primordial sense of rhythm and time — it’s golden hour at 9:20am. But unlike an eclipse, which is awe-inspiring and cosmic, it’s like the natural world can sense something is ominous and wrong.

#OldTrailsFire in Spokane now appears to be most destructive wildfire in WA State history by wide margin (650+ structures lost), w/additional TBD losses nearby. Other PacNW fires actively burning, though less destructive, are far larger & could burn for weeks amid severe drought.
