Hi, this is Meg Barnette, Brad's wife. While escorting a defendant out of immigration court at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked agents and detained by ICE. This is still developing, and our team is monitoring the situation closely.

Egg prices are high because of bird flu. Bird flu risks becoming a pandemic in humans. Trump is kneecapping the CDC and WHO which are the two main entities doing the global monitoring of human infections of bird flu and coordinating the development of vaccines to stop its spread in humans.

In case anyone thinks the funding "pause" is really about reviewing programs, USAID has around 7,000 contracts and grants out that would have to be reviewed in 60 working days (from today). That is 116 reviews per day and does not include anything out for bid or being planned for bid.

I am begging the national media to start taking this seriously. Stop buying the claims that the framing of "temporary" or "pause." They are altering the review processes of federally funded scientific research from merit-based peer review processes to political screening by ideologues.

In Fiscal Year 2024. of the nearly $10 trillion that the Federal Government spent, more than $3 trillion was Federal financial assistance, such as grants and loans. Exactly! The president can't summarily freeze all appropriated funds for an entire agency and then decide to spend it however they like. If you want to change priorities in foreign aid, propose a new budget to congress, hold hearings, and pass funding bills.

I am begging the media covering the federal government to recognize that a "temporary pause/stop-work order" 1) may not be completely legal and 2) can catalyze major, lasting damage. STOP EMPHASIZING TEMPORARY. STUDY THE LEGALITY OF THESE ACTIONS. START EMPHASIZING CURRENT AND POTENTIAL IMPACTS.

I never expected to have to write my staff in Haiti, Kenya, Indonesia, and many other countries to warn them that their USAID-funded positions are at risk due to a stop work order on foreign aid from the Trump Administration. This is heartbreaking. They do so much good.
