For the past few summers, our building courtyard has been full of parsley worms. So this spring I planted extra parsley expressly for the purpose of attracting them. And guess what? Not a single one! Look at the size of these parsley plants!

It's been a while since I revisited the 2019 mayoral election, and I kinda forgot how crazy the first round was. Nine different candidates won at least one precinct! Willie Wilson won the most precincts, but only came in 4th. Amara Enyia got more votes than Joyce and Chico but only won 8 precincts.

The last time Susana Mendoza ran for mayor, she finished fifth with 9% of the vote. Her strongest support was mostly confined to Latino precincts, where she was competing directly with Gery Chico. Had she gotten all his votes, she would've come in third, just short of the runoff.

Just listened to Susana Mendoza taking caller questions on In The Loop. Somebody asked about traffic congestion and the first thing she did was blame bike lanes. The second was to blame crime on CTA, as opposed to bad service. Disqualifying.

As interesting as it is to see how the alders align themselves, if we learned anything from the last mayoral election it’s that voters don’t care who their alder endorses. Half the Black caucus endorsed Vallas and he didn’t win a single one of their wards. Nary a precinct, even.

The last time Alexi Giannoulias was on the ballot in a truly contested election was the 2022 Democratic primary for Secretary of State. He beat Anna Valencia by 8 points in Chicago, but the precinct-level results suggest he'll have trouble winning over the N/NW Side progressives.

Compared to the city as a whole, Logan Square and Lakeview have fairly similar age distributions. But there are more kids and people in their 30s/40s in Logan, while Lakeview is dominated by people in their 20s. In 2020, 34% of Lakeview residents were between 20-29. (24% in LS & 18% citywide)

a big difference is: Logan Square has a higher percentage of children, at 17.3%. in Lake View 11.9% are children. (0 to 19 years old) (yet the median age in LS is 33.1 and the median age in LV is 32.2)
