Saint Paul (and Minneapolis) - public transportation - biking - reimagining urban form

I also hope that @metcouncilmn will see this as an opportunity leverage their role and resources to solve regional issues. They declined to do so when NiceRide was sinking and it’s gone. I fear we will just hear more excuses, from them and everyone else, rather than genuine problem solving.

City and county leaders can still step in with emergency bridge funding, and they need to hear from us, in our own words, this week. savecarsharemn.org @hourcar.bsky.social #Minneapolis #StPaul #TwinCities #HourCar #carshare

As the founding executive director of HOURCAR, let me say that it is imperative someone steps forward to rescue car sharing AND bike sharing in the Twin Cities. HOURCAR, Evie and Nice Ride--all community-led nonprofits--were beautiful systems that allowed so many of us to live nearly car free.

Less than the likely cost of two lawsuit settlements against a current StP city council member.... Seriously, this is a pathetically small amount in the scheme of budgets and sadly reminiscent of Nice Ride getting shut down because the core cities don't back up policy with budget support.

Hourcar service has been around for 21 years, but the nonprofit said it could not close a $625,000 funding gap.

This gap is less than it cost the mayor to put a bounce house in the warehouse district for a summer. This is 1/33 the cost of MPS's surprise overtime. They renovated Target Center in part by making us, the citizens, pay $74 million via a sales tax. WE. HAVE. MONEY. We can spend it in better places

This x 💯. The prep really isn't that bad! And the procedure itself is no big deal. (Coming from someone with a history of enormous medical anxiety.) If you are on the fence, do it! And if it helps, I will gladly take any mutuals out for a post-procedure meal (you will be ravenous), my treat!

Anyway the prep is kind of an ordeal but also for most people genuinely not as bad as the horror stories, and for the colonoscopy itself you can just take a nice nap (if you want to stay awake for it, that's also an option!)

As we contemplate how we will fill in the trench when we remove the freeway, I'd like to suggest that we start with the rocks from all the horrible gabions that sprang up over the past few years. They are truly eyesores that makes lovely spaces ugly.

As someone who does *not* think this is the right time for this policy, I also find this woefully inadequate. Why didn't the City Attorney raise these issues weeks if not months ago? It just stinks of a calculated last-minute move. Not how I want my City or my council member to operate...

Dan Marshall@danmarstp.marshallwords.com · 2mo ago

As someone who signed the petition, I find this woefully inadequate. The council violated the charter by not advancing right to repair to our ballot.

It's National Night Out (my block has a cop-free version) and my microneighborhood is experiencing a sustained rash of petty property crimes (car window smashing, porch thefts, etc.). Does anyone have advice about talking to white liberal neighbors about police-free ways of addressing this stuff?

Hot take: MnDOT shouldn't own any urban arterials streets. They are unequipped to manage the balance between infrastructure and place that urban streets require. I know I am not the first to suggest this, so please do share past explorations of this in the chat...

Y'all if you think that the reason we don't have universal healthcare is that it costs too much, I don't know what to say to you. We would get better healthcare for less money with universal healthcare. The cost is not the issue. There are many reasons we don't have universal healthcare.
