You know what I absolutely love? Making comics! I am so lucky I get to draw and write and that some people actually want to read what I make.
Wrote a little feature about Amano over on Patreon since he keeps coming up in the classes I teach.
for the new yorkers review of the new show "furious"
"As Japanese financial newspaper Nikkei Asia found in a recent investigation, just five US tech giants — Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Oracle — are hiding an estimated $1.65 trillion in debt that doesn’t appear on balance sheets. futurism.com/artificial-i...
Here is what I've been up to over on patreon for the past month. More of the same coming next month, although I will be starting to share work from a new zine project. I just posted a poll for the next book club this morning if you want to vote! www.patreon.com/jmarshallsmith
There is something particularly insulting about someone using AI-generated emails to ask you to speak at an author event.
I don't do a ton of freelance illustration because I don't like doing all that outreach but I used to really enjoy illustrating my own blog. Here's something from a few years ago when I was writing about actual play podcasts.
I put some inks from Solace County 1 and When They Draw The Night up in my shop at what I hope is an accessible price point. If you liked either of these projects and want to own a little part of them and help me buy food why not check out my shop? www.jmarshallsmith.com/shop
I've had a recent crop of people signing me up for their blogs/substacks/newsletters etc. presumably from my website or business card at shows. Please don't do this. Not only will I not read it, I will actively dislike and mistrust you. It is scammy and scummy.
spotted: a sublime, lingering exploration of science fiction, humanity, and time; for fans of rod serling and ursula k le guin
Graphic Novel Review: TESTAMENT finds the finite in the fantastic
J Marshall Smith's TESTAMENT is a deep time test of faith: the tragedy of being the last one left as only a robot can experience it.

Had a really great time at our fundraiser this past weekend? Or, devastated you couldn't make it? Show Mr. Slice your love with a tip to our PayPal. A little goes a long with with our small, volunteer-run org! Link in bio 💸
Sad to see that art 'competitions' where the 'prize' is the work is printed on a commercial product is still a thing. Encouraging submissions from underrepresented groups is null and void if you're asking them to work for free on a brief, that they wont get paid for even if they 'win'.
Two gorgeous ones from @bulgilhanpress.com ‘s Kickstarter! So great to have Faster back in stock, always a fav! Lots more to log! Come by or browse the webshop to see what’s new! littledeercomics.ie

*stumbles in, desiccated, like a mummy* "I... didn't draw yesterday" *dies tragically while reaching for a pencil*
New editorial for Investigate West article about “Wandering Police” Police Officers who are fired from a city’s police force due to misconduct only to be hired again by another. A process that repeats for even the worst offenders. Thanks to Wilson for bringing me on board for this assignment

Hey it is #portfolioday and I wanted to focus specifically on cover design. These are all covers from my own books/zines but I love doing freelance, particularly in publishing, editorial, posters, comics, and games.
Something from the stack of weekly giveaway drawings, an early In The Mood For Love study.
So many hideous AI ads hitting my instagram these days. Has anyone else noticed that or is it a sickness particular to my algorithm?
I like this drawing of Neko Case even though it is a bad likeness
Looking for work, starting in August. Please let me draw some weird stuff for you 🫥
I've got something in my shop that lets people give me a variable amount of money. It is mostly for private lessons, commissions, tattoos etc. but every now and then some angel just gives me a tip. This is nice but if you don't TELL me it is just a tip I have to wonder what it is for.
