Immigrants & asylum seekers are not our enemies. They are not responsible for the austerity, privatisation, erosion of civic life, thinning of democracy and concentration of power we suffer. But they're being punished for these things. Punished at the behest of the very people who *are* responsible.

Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.

No matter where you live (Ireland, UK, US, Canada, Australia, anywhere) racism will never go away of it's own accord. It's a cultural heirloom passed down through the decades. It's not other people's problem to suffer, it's our (white people's) problem and moral obligation to STAMP OUT. #SpeirGorm

I'm so angry at the state of the world. The disgusting likes of Musk, Farrage & Trump sowing hate division - they fan the flames but ALWAYS escape the fire. We need to change that We need solidarity more than ever and those sowing hate & feeding culture wars need a RECKONING #speirgorm #belfast

Just finished #TipToe - from start to finish it was absolutely brilliant. Such an incredibly important watch for the times we are in. The canaries don't shriek for long. It is time we care for one another & stomp out hate

One of the biggest things our 21st-century democracies have to address is lobbying, and how easily they have (not can be - have) been bought lock, stock and barrel by vested interests. From housing and health to the impendjng climate catastrophe, nothing will change until that changes.

The Onion has successfully acquired Alex Jones’ ‘Infowars’ after 17 months of legal battles and has debuted its new logo. It will be turned into a parody of itself, with the support of the Sandy Hook families.

For those attending the White House Correspondents' Dinner this weekend, a small question: When you're sitting there at your table, do you think it'll cross your mind that the guest of honor is actively covering up his role in a massive child sex trafficking operation?

‘Online abuse of politicians is a profitable business-Monetisation and algorithmic amplification has turned peddling disinformation, hate speech, and harassment into a for-profit industry’.The far right Irish blue ‘thicks’ who went after Eileen cash in on hate. www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm...

Online abuse of politicians is a profitable business

Senator Eileen Flynn's comments on far-right use of the tricolour have made her a lightning rod for online abuse — because viral hatred is highly profitable

Imagine being this disconnected from the cost of living that the average young person is enduring right now. Build affordable homes. Introduce rent caps, ban evictions, cap fuel prices, introduce a living wage. Nope. A pyramid scheme. Their mates in finance-land must be frothing at the mouth.

Saw this last week at the AXIS in Ballymun - it was brilliant. Heartfelt, clever & funny. It was in the Fringe last year but keep an eye out for it around the city If you missed it!

So, Roisin Murphy makes the statement that 'no one used the term "queer" unless it was to hurt someone who was gay'. I'm unable to ignore this. The following isn't about making personal comments about Roisin and it's not about the merits of the word, it's about challenging a lie.

OK so “queer” was reclaimed. It went from a slur - to a political slogan - to a broadened identity - to a market - to a HUGE industry. The first rule of markets is expansion, and I have seen the expansion firsthand, and the cynicism behind it in my industry; the music industry. As long as a market is expanding, it is very hard to to fight its negative effects. While the money is pouring in nobody wants to critique it, even its worst excesses, even authoritarianism and child safeguarding get a slide.

No one even used the term “queer” unless it was to hurt someone who was gay. There were some brilliant drag queens but they never said they were actual women.
Oh and the parties were fun then. 🙄
