"The last thing I did is the report on Gaza naming what is happening there as genocide. One of the main reactions to that report [was] paying tribute to me for my courage.. why would you need courage to speak the truth?" Navi Pillay upon winning the 2026 Nobel peace prize

When St George's Place, Glasgow was renamed it was home to the South African Consulate so all mail then had to be addressed to 'Nelson Mandela Place'. The consulate tried to get a PO box # but Glasgow postal union refused to deliver unless address was Nelson Mandela Place. bsky.app/profile/scot...

A statue of Nelson Mandela has been unveiled in Glasgow city centre, nearly 40 years after the city renamed a street in his honour 🙌 In a fitting tribute to the revolutionary and former President of South Africa, the sculpture now stands on a plinth of South African granite on Nelson Mandela Place

Devolution has allowed us to make choices like free university tuition, free bus travel for young people, and support for families through the Scottish Child Payment. We deserve a Parliament whose powers are respected, not treated as something for UK politicians to play with.

The National. We deserve a Parliament with powers respected by the UK. This week’s Tory conference has shown the very real threat that hangs over our parliament.

Sagal Abdi-Wali came to the UK aged 7 having fled the war in Somalia with her family. She has thrived. Leader of Camden council and now the MP for Holborn and St Pancras. A narrative that runs counter to all we are told about refugees. Congratulations www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Why can’t we be more like the French? In France, young people are punching up at those in power demanding better education not decline and more cuts In Britain, middle-aged masked men with criminal records for domestic abuse punch down an at anyone who isn’t white In @heraldscotland.bsky.social

What French student protests reveal about Britain's broken political system

In France, even children can see that the political system needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. In Britain, we seem incapable of understanding that truth, Neil Mackay says.

Did you know? In 1975 the United Nations general assembly passed a resolution declaring "zionism is a form of racism & racial discrimination" (the resolution was revoked in 1991 because Israel made this a condition of its participation in peace talks)

"We have endured.. a war of extermination.. nothing remains" "We have no shelter.. bombing & strikes are constant. There is no food, no safety, nothing at all" "My sister, my cousins & children were all killed.. they struck us repeatedly" 3 Palestinians in Gaza speak.

I see BBC Scotland, and the anti-independence press, all of whom made a huge song and dance about Gordon Brown's Vow in 2014, aren't too bothered that the Tories - one of the signatories of the Vow - have just ripped it up and now want to strip powers from Holyrood.
