How can the people who run these incredible historic sites survive the embarrassment of having turned them into add-ons to a car park?
Just like Clifford's Tower in York. No cycle parking, but loads of ye old Car Parking.
And powerful people paid and encouraged them all along.
Leaders of flag-raising group Raise the Colours Oxfordshire placed trackers on highway workers’ cars to find out their home addresses, the High Court has heard. RTC then attempted to intimidate the highway staff into no longer removing flags by repeating their addresses to them.

There is zero cycle parking at Warkworth Castle (I waited outside with our bikes while my family went in). Nice one, English Heritage!
Join me and @mykaabramson.bsky.social on 20 August for a conversation about the connections between climate justice and Palestine solidarity. All welcome to come along!
We shouldn’t stop at saying we want car-free streets. We should add: ~ wide enough sidewalks for youth to hang out after school ~ benches where families with little ones can rest ~ street canopies that shade elders during their morning walks ~ patios providing a platform for local artists and…
The Big Ride for Palestine takes space on the road for cycling while riding in solidarity with the people of Palestine. But it also raises money. I've been on a couple of rides with Abdullah now, and I very much recommend that folks consider donating to his fundraising page.

Dr. Tiffany Willoughby-Herard put her body on the line to protect students fighting for Gaza & police assaulted her. Instead of protecting her, UC Irvine has stripped her faculty role & her health benefits. Please sign petition, write a letter, signal boost robindgkelley.substack.com/p/in-support...
In Support of Dr. Tiffany Willoughby-Herard
Most academics in the U.S., as well as activists resisting the genocide in Gaza, are familiar with the case of Professor Tiffany Willoughby-Herard, a renowned Global Studies scholar at the University ...

This is literally my favorite (academic) subject! I have more ideas than time or mental bandwidth, but I'm happy to brainstorm or consult with anyone who is looking for advice on specific research questions, methods, or theories. I have more "we should study that"s than I could get to in a lifetime.
We really need to study the aspect of car brain that causes drivers to forget that everything outside their vehicle is real
RIP Louisa Gag, a transit planner who dedicated her career to making Boston’s streets safer for cyclists & pedestrians. She was killed while biking to work on July 9, 2026. Street safety improvements shouldn’t be delayed, watered down, or treated as a political inconvenience. Safe streets now!!
Everything AI touches turns to garbage.
New from 404 Media: Google Earth has introduced an AI feature that lets anyone fabricate completely bullshit satellite images. In our own tests, we added a “bomb blast and crater” to an area of Los Angeles. This is a misinformation time bomb, will 100% be abused www.404media.co/google-earth...
"Wherever Protestant English men put down family roots, agricultural production for global markets on lands held as private property became the key to prosperity and the measure of masculine self-rule" (6).
Evidence of the great benefits of AI: it used to take a huge amount of time and effort to make yourself look this stupid; now AI allows you to humiliate yourself almost instantly.
The State Department said it takes "full responsibility" for "hastily" altering and then presenting a map of Africa at a global AIDS conference that mislabeled every single country it highlighted. An analysis by Reuters found a watermark in the map image that suggests it was made with OpenAI.
I'm sure, amongst other things, the way they cause a "need" to fit 2 cups of coffee between driver and passenger is a big part of the impetus for absurdly wide cars.
Yes to this, as a starting point. Then move on to drive thrus at every establishment.
Yes to banning all drive thru only establishments. New and old.
We're making ourselves visible both on the street and popping up in the news in a few places! Great writeup by Murthaza Ali-Hassan www.birmingham-now.co.uk/news/2640525...

Just back from a few days in Scotland with a recommendation: the National Cycling Network route from Gourock to Paisley. Along the waterfront, then up into the hills, then a long gentle descent through the countryside. Needs a couple of tweaks to keep the cars away, but fantastic overall.
Cities that refuse to tow away cars left where they shouldn't be are making a policy announcement that they support this.
This junction near the Selly Oak triangle illustrates how ill-managed and obtrusive the storage of private cars in south Birmingham is. @betterstreetsforbirmingham.org
A great example of why the "make eye contact with drivers and wear reflective clothing" advice for pedestrians and cyclists is bad. Nothing short of physically limiting where and how drivers can operate their vehicles will work.

Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness

"Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school." #StreetsForPeople
“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”
Oh, and still almost no *national* media and political coverage… The Tyneside coastal communities, who have been doing back-breaking work round the clock to clear as many nurdles as possible, won’t get answers and a proper clean-up till this spill gets more attention. Read through thread for more.
Litany of failure here from Port of Tyne and companies involved in perhaps worst ever plastic pollution event in UK/Europe: No immediate containment of spillage No mention of spillage in press releases until day 4 *Still* no large-scale clear-up operation Nurdles found 20 miles N and S of Tyne
There's lots that's batshit about UK academia of course, but this thing where every year a selection of everyone's publications get anonymously scored by their senior colleagues is by far the craziest aspect.
