I dislike the Cheese boy's takes as much the rest of you but this is simply not true. There are more surface ships under construction at Bath and Ingalls today than the South Korean Navy has bought in the last 15 years. We shit on the Cheese because he is a realist who debases himself for Trump.

Yet the crisis of US shipbuilding is so bad that the US Navy is ordering ships from Korean or Italian firms and US logistics depend on bases among allies Colby is typical for an elite so marinated in myths of its power that it forgot to sustain real structures it needs to survive

The abolitionist signer of the Declaration of Independence Benjamin Rush said in 1787 that the war was over but the Revolution was not. That the war was only the first act of the great drama of perfecting a new government and preparing its citizens' "principles, morals and manners" for self-rule.

Because we are America. Each and every one of us. America means all that is good in us, just as much as it means what's bad in us. I choose to believe that there is more good than bad among us. I choose to believe in us. I choose hope.

Yeah in case anyone is not clear on it, a significant portion of the modern right actively fantasizes about murdering you. Registered Dem? You. Sociology major? You. Interracial marriage? Definitely you. None of us have the luxury of pretending we are safe. You should have a plan.

it goes without saying that it's racist to refer to immigrants as "invaders" who must be met with lethal force, but the 'traitors then invaders' framing here isn't just xenophobia - it's a recurring theme in some of the most violent neonazi propaganda of the late 20th century.

I would be very hesitant to assign specific blame to either Grok or Maven Smart System, absent specific evidence. There are multiple different points in the targeting process where a mistake could have been made. Remember the school adjoined an IRGCN installation. Bad inputs lead to bad outcomes.

Did DoD just admit in a court filing that it used xAI's Grok Gov Model to hit the girls' school on the first day of the Iran war? Based on some passages flagged by @rgoodlaw.bsky.social in DoD's recent filing in NAACP's case against X, it looks like it did 1/

This was a bad study for many reasons, not least of which that it rigged the results implicitly in favor of nuclear weapons, but the computers behaved relatively typical of human decision makers. Can we stop talking about it please? I don’t want to retype my screed about how awful it was.

Researchers gave three commercial AI models an exercise typically used to train human military strategists. Each system played the leader of a nuclear-armed country in a standoff. Across 21 simulations, the models chose to use nuclear weapons in all but one game. Read more from Hiranya Peiris.

Now USNI has always printed a lot of bullshit but this is really spectacularly bad. "To maintain the rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific, the United States and its allies should"... abandon that order preemptively without fighting? Very stupid all around.

In a post-Taiwan world, U.S. maritime strategy should focus on the Philippines. https://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2026/may/its-philippines-stupid

I'll return to this account's original purpose to both praise and dispute this piece. Why surface from periscope depth on this topic? As one of, if not the, only active posters here who has actually gloved up and done work in the plutonium facility, I have a unique perspective to offer. ☢️🧵

I have written a post about the State of Los Alamos; its inability to substantially accelerate or add new missions; and why trying to do so is a bad idea. Also: don't touch things in Plutonium Facility-4 & I'd stay out of the Basement & away from its mysteries. #PhDLife Free & accessible to all.

This article is fundamentally flawed, paying only lip service to the fundamental strategic and tactical differences between Iran, Ukraine, and Taiwan. The PLA does not need ships to enforce a blockade of Taiwan, and idea the island can field an IADS to deter the PLAAF is delusional in the extreme.

🇹🇼 Taiwan has agency here, writes @gideonrachman.bsky.social: "The current wars in Ukraine and Iran underline how foolish it is to assume that a military superpower, like Russia or the US, will always win a war against a smaller country or economy."
