Things we might have in common: •Toronto-Based Complaining •Speculative Fiction of all types •Book Collecting •Food and Drink of almost any variety •Being "Left" in a way that doesn't mean "Centrist"

New city report notes the Toronto Police Vision Zero Enforcement Team handed out about 14,500 speeding tickets in 2025. Might sound like a lot, but well, compare and contrast.

Out at the park with my kid last week, a young couple really wanted to let their (medium) dog off its leash. My kid is scared of dogs, and I wasn't looking forward to *another* animated discussion about dogs in parks. Thankfully, the guy just did a bunch of pullups and they left

I have taken my life in my hands and written a column about off leash dog owners (and maybe on what “danger” is & how its perception can be manipulated by politics).

We checked out the first giganto-signs courtesy of Doug Ford. This is the dumbest crap and a total waste of taxpayer money. The gov't knows speed cameras are effective. Instead of evidence-based best practices that save KIDS' LIVES, these populist idealogues deny reality and leave us with this.

A photo of the new oversized sign with a hand in the left foreground making a thumbs down gesture, and a bottom caption that says "this sign should be a speed camera"Another sign, identical and located down the road from the first one, with a top caption that says "all this is a sign of is abject leadership failure" and a bottom caption that says "This does NOTHING to keep kids safe"Another shot of an oversized sign, with a top caption that says "there is *only* research showing signs are ineffective" and a bottom caption that says "*all* research about speed cameras proves they are effective and save lives"A shot of the base of the pole holding up the oversized signs. Special poles had to be ordered. There are 2 large holes drilled through the base of the extra-big pole. This is baffling.

Know what really melts my M&Ms though? When I buy a private jet and then everybody jumps all over me like I'm wearing fancy dress socks or something. I mean Quebec's got THREE private jets they use just to fly sick people around. Sick people! I mean what've sick people ever done for the economy?

We were hours away from a strike during our last bargaining. Mgmt panicked once they saw the barriers and barrels getting unloaded. "What are your workers doing?!" Uhhh, setting up the pickets? Frantic phone calls, a late night extension, and we had a deal to vote on the next day.

The romanticization of the strike as a performance of class struggle over its actual purpose (obtaining concessions at the bargaining table through economic warfare) is a problem on the left.

"Remember, you know things, too. Deep inside. You’ll question yourself. We all do. But you have a gut-level knowing that would rise up and out from that sweet belly, even if you were the last person on Earth, walking around with your Nuk and the last bag of Doritos." buff.ly/5IB941n
