I do not auto follow back! Mostly lurking. Photographer, lover of books. Profile pic: a weeping angel statue from New Orleans, banner pic: wild fall cyclamen in bloom, surrounded by fallen cedar fronds
@gateau.bsky.social Here are the earrings, clips & mounts purchased separately. Clips are huge, they cover most of the tragus when worn. Fabulous to look at, but not very comfortable to wear even with fresh foam pads. Cast metal of some sort, pretty textured. Nothing similar on PicDetective.
Why is it so hard to capture this extremely flashy opal on camera?! (Skill issue, I know. Grrr…!) I do like how the fire means it holds its own with the much larger malachite. Ethiopian opal ring: @peculiarityshop.bsky.social Malachite ring: ebay
I was trying to explain what ChatGPT is to my mom (she thought it was a messaging app) and after my explanation and some thought, she volunteered, “Oh, so it’s the magic mirror in the beginning of Snow White when it only tells the queen what she wants to hear.” Perfect analogy.
*sigh* An "AI" does not "escape containment", as breathless news articles claim. It is *told to do something by its programmers*, then it *goes and does what it's been told*, then the corporation it belongs to releases a statement to drive fear-based engagement and media laps up the lie.
@gateau.bsky.social Final arrival of the day! Needed a fast polish and a little hot water reshaping, but now I have a daily wear, cuff style bracelet.
@gateau.bsky.social Utter fucking STEAL at $30 for the pair. Ring is heavy & solid. Love the bail on the pendant. I did not expect to love either of these as much as I do.
I also encourage you to look for the partner organizations in your area that make this happen. The Imagination Library does not do this alone. In King Co it is Africatown Community Land Trust. They had to stop some local delivery because of lack of local funding. www.imaginationlibrarywashington.org

Although I should have done it long ago, I finally donated to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library & encourage you to do the same if Dolly & childhood literacy are important to you. Let's overwhelm them with donations in honor of our angel. imaginationlibrary.com
I ended up having more extended thoughts on Dolly Parton over on Facebook and I thought I would share them here as well.
What Dolly taught us is that it is in fact possible to be wealthy beyond your wildest dreams of avarice but still be a fundamentally good person with a strong moral compass, and the only reason more rich people aren't like that is because they don't want to be.
I'm having fun imagining Dolly, Carrie, and Betty on the other side, having adventures together... Art by Lindsay van Ekelenburg(www.lindsayvanek.com)
today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is: #ThinPerches any bird on a comparatively thin perch. Rufous-crested Coquette, a tiny hummingbird of the Andes has a lot of character and seems to know it! Very expressive as it changes the position of its crest. Oh, and a thin perch too. #Peru 🪶
This entire project is mind blowing. How wonderful!
Seshat was the goddess of knowledge and astronomy, inventor of writing, and divine record keeper, marking the passage of time on a notched palm rib. Here, the diagram she draws invokes how the Moon's "cratering record" is used in the study of planetary chronology. #SkyhorseCarousel #SciArt
@gateau.bsky.social The odd onyx & mystery green stone earrings are here, and I think I’m right...they typoed “oval” 2x instead of “opal” in the listing! Not great flash for earrings, both would have been better set into rings, I think. The bad news is, they’re very heavy at over 9g each.
@gateau.bsky.social Pics of the previous dragon’s breath projects. The grey pearl collar has matching earrings & hand flower bracelets that I haven’t taken pics of. The raven embroidery was done by Steve (machine embroidered), and that one has purple foil opals.
@gateau.bsky.social Today’s arrival from Goodwill: Sterling & glass drops filled with fluffy dandelion seeds, symbolizing perseverance & resilience & of course, wishes! Right now, I’m mostly wishing for rain, so the drops are pretty symbolic too. Already favorites for daily wear!
@gateau.bsky.social This weekend’s cleanup jobs. Of the stones, I do suspect the flower mandala to be glass, but that blue dangle fluoresces just enough to make me think possible topaz. The purse took SO much cleaning, and there’s still a little more to do. But not a dent in sight!

Every living creature has its own form and spirit. From expression to movement, from stillness to running free, it can all begin with the simplest lines. Life in all things, with lines at the heart of it all. #shouxinsketch #petart #animalart #illustrationartists #pet #sketch #sketchdaily
Someone needs to buy this little lovely, because it won’t fit me. Foiled glass “opals” are amazing. And I bet Hillary has or can pretty easily find what you need to make a matching set!
@hillarymonahan.bsky.social Question (possible favor): are you open to help rehome a 925 marked poison ring? Found this poor baby in my late husband’s stuff. Band has been flattened rather than properly resized. No idea of age, suspect it came to him from an antique shop. About 11g.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
Teaching critical thinking: What evidence do you have to support your claim? How do you know that evidence is true? Have you considered the opposing evidence? How do you know that evidence is false?
Increasingly, Soylent Green serves as one of the best metaphors for AI -- it's taking all that we are, as people, chumming it up, and feeding the slurry back to us. We're told that we need it, it's nutritious, it'll save the world, even as it damns it and us.
