Don't buy yourself a curtain pole long enough to push the curtains off the window then fit the brackets right by the architrave so you have 30cm of pole either side the window that you can't use. (Though does make it easy for us to come in and radically improve things, which does make us look good)

What’s a thing from your area of expertise (or special interest) that you think it would behoove everyone else to know?

Just saw a throwaway on a video about 'that was my best at work'; what was yours? (Deliberately vague) Mine was definitely the day wrong'un from neighbouring business had been caught doing a crime, and a tourist had videod NCA catching them and edited a whole youtube cinematic experience.

I seem to be on a subtweeting run, sorry, but I'm just not following the 'those alerts are for nukes' posts I'm still seeing from yesterday. They definitely said they'd be used for severe weather events/threats to life REALLY clearly in all the publicity around the tests. (1/)

I think what's most damning is that this media frenzy happened because it is august, and there is no news, and the journos were bored and this looked exciting. And now a man is dead and they'll all go "yes, very sad" then blame the universities as a concept before fucking off to party conferences

While the Honkening is obviously not helping to fight against climate change, my mum’s neighbours lit a massive fuck-off bonfire in the back garden on Thursday night, and if phone alerts makes twats like that think twice before risking setting the street ablaze, I guess that’s something

There's a lot of comment about the potential loosening of electric car targets. If some of those people could tell me the solution to owning an electric car when you do not have a drive way or allocated parking space, then I'll happily consider one.

I ordered from Lindt online a few years ago, and so still get marketing emails. I feel like they should maybe take the summer off, who would order chocolate through the post when it's 30 degrees?!

It should be clear that there will never be any pleasing people who, amongst other things, live in a state of perpetual terror and outrage at the possibility that somewhere, somebody might be eating a free cheese sandwich.

I've read this list three or four times and I really can't find the thing I'm supposed to be outraged by. One cereal bowl?! Stainless steel cutlery?! Two pillows?! Where are we putting them, the Ritz?!

Just to confirm, the things I can't get through my entire workday without are a communal biscuit supply (currently on excellent 'apology' biscuits from a rep which are better than we buy ourselves) and equally sarcastic colleagues. What are these people's actual jobs?!

My answer is LOL ROFL (dickbrain) The terminally AI-pilled can't even *imagine* some people have *never* asked stochastic parrots to cheat at their job for them.

All the people who are anti-Al or want to
slow Al progress, I have one question:
If Al disappeared tomorrow, could you
still get through an entire workday
without ChatGPT, Claude, or any other
 Al tool?

Imagine Al was suddenly banned.
Would you actually be willing to give it
 up?

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

In the 90s when you wanted to use the internet the computer would scream at you for 2 minutes and I think we should bring this back so it sets the tone for any and all experiences on the internet nowadays.

You ever get that thing where you meet somebody and think 'gosh, they look like SoAndSo', and even if they don't particularly they're always a lookalike of that person in your head? Had that with a customer today, and unfortunately for her, my brain has decided she's the spit of Fanny Craddock.

I don't know where the trend of people thinking inverted commas mean emphasis came from, and happily I don't encounter it often, but when I do I really do enjoy the sarcastic air quotes vibe ("Visit us and try our 'great' food", "Voted the 'friendliest' cafe in Lower Twistleton" etc)

Glorious bit of trivia from Eddie Johns on Threads: Since Abraham Lincoln's assassination in 1865, every single President has been alive at the same time as Herbert Hoover. It would still have applied even if Kamala Harris had won. She was born the exact same day Hoover died, October 20, 1964.

We desperately need some rain, but when the weather finally breaks I am going to miss the legit mid afternoon ice cream break that's become a routine part of the working day
