You wouldn't have people like Hank Green using AI tools for labor if there wasn't all this pressure to produce, produce, produce to survive. I keep saying this! AI is a labor issue as much as it is every other issue.

Unemployment is the worst since 2015 (under John Key). In Sept 2023 it was 3.9%; now it is 5.6%! Even at the height of the COVID pandemic, unemployment wasn't as bad. This coalition has made things worse for Kiwis. They are bad economic managers. #nzpol #votethemout www.rnz.co.nz/news/busines...

it's only tangential but fuck me it's wild how this guy was on people's radar before politics for being *bad* at running Air New Zealand, but being friendly about it. the guy before him *lost Air NZ's air travel monopoly* and Luxon's still the guy memorialised at being bad at the job.

This is the online article text which doesn't match the print version Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has apologised for describing a business community’s concerns as taking a “negative view” and saying they should be acting like an “adult”. After the remarks were labelled out-of-touch and patronising, Luxon on Monday afternoon admitted they “didn’t properly acknowledge the challenges that many small business owners are facing” and that he was willing to “cop it” and “own it”. Finance Minister Nicola Willis, standing alongside Luxon, wouldn’t share her reaction to his comments, but said she believed Luxon was in touch with the experiences of businesspeople. Luxon made the apology at his post-Cabinet press conference, during which he also faced scrutiny for an apparent lack of discipline towards Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters for comments he made to a Green MP last week. The Prime Minister, who has called Peters’ remarks racist, said in response to questions that he had spoken with Peters. However, he refused to divulge details of that conversation other than to say he had shared that he found the comments offensive. Those twin political headaches facing Luxon largely overshadowed confirmation from Willis that the Government had decided, for now, to retain the temporary support for families introduced to help with rising fuel prices. While New Zealand experienced four weeks of prices below $3 a litre, Willis said recent volatility in the Middle East meant prices had risen and could remain elevated for weeks. She will return to Cabinet to discuss the supports if prices fall below $3 again. On Friday, in response to comments about declining confidence and affordability issues, Luxon said that was a “negative view” and businesses needed to innovate.

i'm a subscriber to the verge but i think the written excerpt posted here is a little unfair here. "we have an open protocol we want anyone to be able to build on" isn't really the same as saying "we want nazis on here". most of his response is actually about their work on live events like sports

this is an interesting interview and if i were clipping it for social media i would have excerpted "We're still a place where we don't downrank links. We love sending traffic to people. We send two million clicks a day to publishers" rather than the part that'll just piss people off lol

To me it points to how even using LLMs to enhance your own productivity can be a trap that accelerates your workload to the point where you become sloppier and more disconnected from its purpose. “Yay I can do the work of ten [far less capable] people!”

Despite the garbage AI photos on their site, the company Cuddle Clones does truly make extremely expensive plush replicas of your pets (my roommates got me one in college) They've now released warmable versions (a weighted plush that you can heat in the microwave) leading to these unhinged AI ads

Because the supposedly real cat and the supposedly plush cat look computer generated and almost identical, it looks like this woman is microwaving a living cat.
