Broadly, my books are organized by subject, but my daughter and I lost count recently somewhere north of 1,000 and the subject-matter boundaries are pretty porous. Nobody else is finding a specific title in my office without my help.

I should expect self-serving nonsense verging on blasphemy/heresy, but somehow, still, after ALL THIS TIME, I'm still caught off guard by the shameless bootlicking. If I said anything a thousandth this slobberingly obsequious and then experienced a moment of self awareness I'd walk into the sea.

Yeah, there are a tiny handful of cases where 50k now is better than a 50% shot at $1m. But for the huge majority of people it’s just a straight-up terrible decision. One is life-changing money, the other is moderately life-improving money. People choose the former because they’re irrational.
