That Joshua Bonehill-Paine is a suitable Tory candidate but Grant Shapps and Gavin Barwell have been excluded is quite a good indicator of how many seats the Tories will realistically regain at the next election.

Performative politics perfectly demonstrated - making a performative (and deeply offensive) comment, about a performative policy suggestion they never seriously expect to have to deliver upon. Zero substance. Just shouting, absurdity and distraction. A total waste of time and energy

For years, the right wing press have told people global warming and climate change aren’t happening, net zero is a waste of time etc - is the pivot really to now say, oh well let’s just embrace all the consequences, and just hope nobody remembers what we used to say?!

Yes & herein lies the problem. When Labour was dragged to the hard left by Corbyn, centre-left Labour MPs fought for their traditions and their principles. When the same thing happens in the Tory party, centre-right Conservative MPs go gently into that good night.

The Tory MPs left who are properly centre right at heart are resolutely keeping their mouths shut, having learnt from the Johnson purge in 2019 that they’ll just be replaced by people who will do as they’re told, regardless of the damage to the Party.
