The 5th Augheist begins tomorrow. A heist film a day throughout August. This year I'll try and watch as many Donald E. Westlake adaptations that I can, mixed with some great heist films I've not watched during Augheist. The blueprints are ready, the crew assembled...

Letterboxd app Four Favourites. Posters of Point Blank, The Outfit, The Hot Rock and The Split.

I was hoping for another forgotten New York classic like Night of the Juggler, but Nighthawks doesn’t make quite the same impression. The location filming is superb - everyone looks freezing in every scene - and Stallone is pretty good as the troubled hero. Worth spending a few quid on the DVD.

Happy Highlander 4K Day! The new box set is out, stuffed with goodies including a new 100-page booklet of essays and my 84-page deep dive into an early draft of the screenplay. There’s also a mini version of my Art & Making Of book (out in September) and an audio commentary on the disc itself. ⚔️

A look inside the new StudioCanal box set, including the shiny cover featuring a large image of the Kurgan alongside Ramirez and MacLeod, plus mini book and a ‘Script to Screen - In Search of Lost Scenes and Forgotten Immortals’ booklet

Spent the afternoon planning my dad's memorial and then this shows up in the feed. All this care and effort from so many people to make such a lovely object honoring a thing he played a part in bringing to life. I'm not teary YOU'RE teary!!!

The 40th anniversary Highlander 4K set is out this month, my contributor copy arrived today. It’s a thing of beauty. I wrote the script to screen booklet and the minibook, @priscillapage.bsky.social @thekempster.bsky.social and @ryanlambie.bsky.social wrote essays for the 100-page booklet.

This new Highlander 4K is out at the end of the month - I’ve got a few bits and bobs in there, plus there’s a 100-page booklet with new essays. Well worth adding to your shelf alongside the VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, the previous 4K and whatever other edition you might have.

Highlander is getting a new 4K release for its 40th and I’m pleased to be part of the celebrations. Alongside my 84-page analysis of an early script - a Coney Island finale?! - and script excerpts, there’s a sneak peek at my Art & Making of Highlander book (out in September) and a commentary.

Quite enjoyed Jonathan Mahler’s The Gods of New York, a look at the late 80s in NYC as Mayor Koch seems to stumble from one mess to the next, while Trump poisons everything he touches and Giuliani rises through the ranks.
