I was hoping for another forgotten New York classic like Night of the Juggler, but Nighthawks doesn’t make quite the same impression. The location filming is superb - everyone looks freezing in every scene - and Stallone is pretty good as the troubled hero. Worth spending a few quid on the DVD.

I’m slowly working my way through Elementary and Person of Interest, so discovering this (almost) crossover trailer was a nice surprise. Also, in the absence of new Doctor Who for however many years to come, I feel Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock is a good substitute for now.

I’ve been wanting to watch Electra Glide in Blue for years, now the random old movie generator that is Prime Video has delivered the goods.
Last time I saw this on the big screen it was being introduced by Sean Connery and Saeed Jaffrey at Edinburgh International Film Festival. Maybe EIFF will show it again this year as part of their new annual Connery celebrations?

Great performances by Connery & Cain, seamlessly fuses a sort of pulp orientalism with a critique of Britain’s imperial project & one of my favourite film tropes, white men going mad in the wilds of the global south.

Spent the afternoon planning my dad's memorial and then this shows up in the feed. All this care and effort from so many people to make such a lovely object honoring a thing he played a part in bringing to life. I'm not teary YOU'RE teary!!!

Wasn’t expecting the new Highlander 4K set to arrive JUST AS I WAS LEAVING THE HOUSE, but had to take a few photos - I’d be rubbish at unboxing videos.

This new Highlander 4K is out at the end of the month - I’ve got a few bits and bobs in there, plus there’s a 100-page booklet with new essays. Well worth adding to your shelf alongside the VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, the previous 4K and whatever other edition you might have.

Alongside my 84-page analysis of an early script - a Coney Island finale?! - and script excerpts, there’s a sneak peek at my Art & Making of Highlander book (out in September) and a commentary.
Went for a Minder double bill tonight, with Scotch Harry doing the bizzo and Anthony Valentine getting dealt some dodgy hands. Leon Griffiths at his best.
Quite enjoyed Jonathan Mahler’s The Gods of New York, a look at the late 80s in NYC as Mayor Koch seems to stumble from one mess to the next, while Trump poisons everything he touches and Giuliani rises through the ranks.
Working my way through the new Marlowe Blu-ray from Arrow - this is a belter of a promotional still, Bruce Lee causing havoc as James Garner looks on.
