Are there any poet friends who might want to read an advance copy of my upcoming collection of Yang Xiaobin’s poems in translation? 😬

When I was in Lhasa in Spring 1985 I witnessed a sky burial. Below are a selection of photographs I took (with permission, and only after the vultures had been summoned) using poor quality Chinese film after finishing my supply of Fujifilm.
The site of the sky burial is near Sera Monastery, and brightly-painted Buddhist paintings adorn the nearby rocks, prominently featuring Yama, god of death, with the head of a buffalo, holding a skull-tipped club in his right hand and a lasso in his left hand, standing on a bull.

Today, I’d like to share some pictures of our 龍圖公案 copy. While the preface contains a few nice 異體字, I especially enjoy the pictures’ angular style: The rough woodblock print makes faces and objects look almost Picasso-esque here! #ChinaBooks #Sinology #ChinaArt

In Chinese #folklore, Returning Soul Incense (返魂香) is more than a scent, it is a promise against death. Made from the roots of the Returning Soul Tree on Divine Bird Mountain, it begins as a black, tar-like pill with terrifying power. The tree itself is uncanny: 1/3

Let me share some pages from the 傳家寶書 that depict seals. I love the variety of scripts, shapes, sizes, and character placements used here. The one that looks like a jug of alcohol is definitely my favorite! Which one do you like the most? #ChinaBooks #Sinology
The popular scientific encyclopedia 傳家寶書 (or 傳家寶全集), written by 石成金, contains many beautiful illustrations! In addition to depictions of seal stamps and scholarly objects, I especially like the pictures that accompany these poems. #ChinaBooks #Sinology #ChinesePoetry
Our 清文鑑 has previously been partially restored—likely in the late 1800s. After the volumes were damaged by bugs, the restorer added a layer of paper under the holes and sometimes even rewrote (parts of) the missing text by hand. #ChinaBooks #Sinology #BookRestoration

I have been a huge Tarthang Tulku fan and reader since the 80s. One of the true masters who can skillfully deliver the dharma without falling back on it. Robin Caton from Dharma College channels her teacher just as skillfully in this excerpt from her new book 'The Undreamed Self'. Free link
No Borders, No Boundaries
In Tarthang Tulku’s vision of mind, the boundaries we take to be real are conventions that can be seen through.
