Choroid plexus is often lost during tissue sectioning and overall anatomy can be difficult if not impossible to reconstruct. Here we observe the vascular anatomy of human choroid plexus as if through a jeweler’s loupe. Sample courtesy of Matthew Schrag and Neil Dani. #FluorescenceFriday
Thank you to the team at @syGlass for highlighting some of our data. If you haven’t tried working with your data in VR space, you really need to see what you are missing. Syglass is a powerful tool for visualizing and analysis. @vubasicsciences.bsky.social #microscopy #lightsheet #science 🧪
Happy #3DThursday! Today we'll explore a SUB(!!)-volume of 500GB from a cleared, intact mouse brain from Jose Maldonado at Vanderbilt. You can see how we render these enormous data on consumer grade GPUs. 🥽💻 🔎 @josemald.bsky.social, @vucellimaging.bsky.social 🔬 lifecanvastech.com 🥽 syglass.io
I'm pleased to report that the board has now heard from NIH that the appointments of these three investigators and similarly situated folks are being extended. Thank you NIH! Delighted that the stellar work there will be continuing!
Compelling pushback from @jmgrohneuro.bsky.social and the Board of Scientific Counselors at the National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH) regarding termination of tenure-track investigators driven by DOGE. 1/2
Here is a closeup on our survey of the #hippocampus from Joe Luchsinger’s mouse sample, using the 15x objective from LifeCanvas Technologies Inc. With #lightsheet imaging you can peel away layers and observe cellular anatomy with stunning detail. How can VNL help you image your sample?
For #FluorescenceFriday, a side-by-side comparison of 5xFAD hemibrains at 6 months showing how Aβ plaques can be modulated not just by sex but also by the transgene parentage. More details from our recent paper where we reported the transgene inheritance effect in 5xFAD mice 👇
Are you using 5xFAD mice to study Alzheimer’s disease? Our work out today @cp-neuron.bsky.social may be relevant to you 🐁🧠 Age and sex are known to influence Aβ plaque burden in these mice. Here, we found that the transgene parentage is another strong determinant. Thread below: (1/11)
Just a gorgeous #Purkinje neuron all by itself in the cerebellum. Only with #lightsheet #microscopy on a whole #cleared sample could you ever hope to catch a lone reporter expressing cell in it’s entirety. #science 🧪
Definitely need to try this. Has anyone here used this on lightsheet meso scale data? @microscopy 🧪
Microscopy Nodes is now up on bioRxiv! 🚀 This is a Blender extension that seamlessly integrates and visualizes 3D microscopy data (TIF & @zarr.dev). High-quality volume rendering for anyone, in both EM and fluorescence, regardless of computational expertise! 🔬 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
Ok here’s a first go at looking at the previously acquired sample in 3D space. Still some work to do before we have a final product. 🧪
Image preprocessing. This is from the acquisition in my previous post. Final image will be gorgeous!
Thai is going to be a good one! Transgenic expression of tdTomato always yields phenomenal signal to noise.

Lightsheet microscopy is unparalleled in its ability to resolve whole circuits in the mouse brain. Michelle Bedebaugh let me image one of her Rabies MC3R Cre samples with the 15X objective on my smartSPIM and we are very happy with the results. 🧪
There has been enough interest that we are on to Microscopy Starter Pack #2. Still open to who to include, including yourself! go.bsky.app/DA4LAjJ
Our new study shows that SARS-CoV-2 spike protein accumulates & persists in the body for years after infection, especially in the skull-meninges-brain axis, potentially driving long COVID. mRNA vaccines help but cannot stop it🔬🧠🦠🧵Your weekend read👇 @cellpress.bsky.social cell.com/cell-host-mi...

Hard to overstate how pleased I am that the FlyWire consortium converted our FAFB ("Full Adult Fly Brain") EM volume into a connectome, and that the resulting science has been (and will be) so impactful. Thanks to everyone involved. #neuroscience www.nature.com/immersive/d4...
