Just discovered that the ITV Drama YouTube channel are uploading episodes of Cadfael (they've done the same with Hornblower and Sharpe). Why yes, I will watch Derek Jacobi roaming around Shrewsbury in the middle of Stephen and Matilda's civil war.

Thankfully the sun is starting to tentatively poke through the clouds, because currently my "conference by the sea" attire is looking very optimistic. Either way, I'm looking forward to a few days of (more relaxed) Anglo-Norman history after the wonderful (but exhausting) IMC.

I just decid sto watch back my #IMC2026 talk and see what I could improve on, and honestly I was quite chuffed! I definitely need to say "er" a bit less (though it got noticeably less frequent as the talk went on), and I forgot one of the two points I was making... 1/2

I (and my books!) are safely ensconced at home once more. #IMC2026 was a genuinely great (though thoroughly tiring) experience, and it was so nice to see familiar faces, meet people whose names I knew, and meet entirely new people altogether.

Exciting developments! Once again my trip is disrupted because, somehow, the train companies keep running out of staff. So a later AND horrendously overcrowded train to look forward to I guess. As above, so below (or something).

One last cheeky reminder that the Loyalty in the Medieval World group have sessions all day tomorrow at #IMC2026. I am dealing with Norman (literary) shenanigans and rebellion at 11:15, so be there AND be square. Also good news: I have avoided buying any more books!

Interrupting everyone's schism-posting to sneakily use it as a segue to remind everyone that next week is #IMC2026 and that on Wednesday there are four fantastic sessions all about loyalty (and disloyalty!) in the Newlyn Building, GR.01 that you should all totally come to. #medievalsky #skystorians

Four sessions all on Wednesday by the 'Loyalty in the Medieval World' Research Group. 9:00 - 10:30 is Loyalty and Literature. 11:15 - 12:45 is Ideas and Language of Disloyalty. 14:15 - 15:45 is Contested Loyalties. 16:30 - 18:00 is Loyalty and Society. All in the Newlyn Building, room GR.01

Just got an email saying my train to Leeds tomorrow is no longer stopping at (drum roll please)... Leeds. I mean given how little time Trainline gives you to connect sometimes, that probably wasn't going be feasible anyway. But it's the principle of the matter!

Finally managed to finish painting these little Norman dudes from Victrix. I'm not going to be winning a Golden Demon any time soon, but I'm honestly pretty chuffed with how they came out after just shy of a decade not picking up a brush. I can't take credit for the shields though, I used transfers!

All 32 28mm scale Normans painted up.Four mounted milites with spears/lances. Interestingly there is a theory that Norman knights threw their spears rather than used them couched under their arms...Some crossbowmen. Gluing the one quarrel into the nearest figures mouth was honestly trickier than painting it.A selection of armoured Norman infantry, equipped with swords and shields, and mainly in chainmail. Thought I'd add a little extra collie to three of them by painting their helmets.
