Oh god, she definitely made a deal with him. New levels of insanity in British politics. For the blissfully ignorant the AI page this guy runs switched its content from generic right wing to being overtly pro Badenoch a few months back. A deal is the only thing that makes sense.

This is vintage Corbyn. I'm having flashbacks. Beyond obvious, it raises a lot of questions about Polanski's own record and the record(s) of his candidates. Genuinely feeling sorry for the many decent Greens who will be horrified at the stupidity and tone deafness of the response.

The comments in the post are filled with people suggesting he is lying about this very clear, data-evidenced fact. It’s almost as though they don’t want it to he true…
I'm very much on the side of a written constitution if it addresses the glaring 'by-convention' weaknesses. Our monarchy has legal absolute power over our politics. Parliament is not the supreme authority in lawmaking. The Lords exist as an unelected body. PM's have far too much uncodified powers.
James Austin@jamesdaustin.bsky.social · 4d agoI'm not against a written constitution per se - it could be helpful in clarifying how our constitutional law works - but I am increasingly of the view that its a side show*. What matters most are norms - and our focus should be on re-establishing and strengthening them.
A few people are saying this so if it helps: cross-party collaboration is a standard strategy for helping to get a generational reform across the line. A landslide is only the first hurdle for a change this big. You also need to bring voters and (some) of the media along.

I think Sunak, even Boris, would have gone for this fwiw. We can only hope senior tories break ranks because a consensus position on social care could save local government and health in basically one move. Freeing up both to focus on acute issues.

Another by-product of not having a constitution is that people can pick and choose whats legitimate. This week its the party leader. Next its the manifesto. Then its the individual mps (correct answer to the curent constitutional settlement in my view).

Calls for a GE are either opportunistic or, more sinisterly, a sign of a belief that Labour govts just aren't as legitimate as Tory ones.
Have we as a species collectively lost our desire to examine sources of information? The number of outlets reporting the woes of a woman who has turned her appearances in media into a cottage industry, in this thread is dire.

🧵Burnham announcements on bills/bus fares have a very 'bread/butter' feel & reprioritise from long term to now. Truth is lots of public are frustrated with 18 years of language around 'tough choices for long term change' that never comes & want govt to show it can help in here/now
It may be me, but less than 24 hours after Burnham has become PM seems a little early to be reaching sweeping conclusions about the next three years.

I do not follow this account. I follow no related accounts. Yet I open facebook and this is the top post on my feed. Promoting racism, sectarianism and lays the blame at, you guessed it, jewish people. The mainstreaming of antisemtism is a direct result of META algorithms pushing it onto people.

Burham's speech a reminder of how he got here. He has a great ability to speak to the Labour movement, all parts of it, and not sound mechanical/forced. He makes you feel good to be in Labour again.
