The advances are too small, the market isn't big enough, and there's little support in the way of grants. I think this has a negative effect on the Canadian theatre.

Some low-stakes personal news: this month marks 15 years at the Globe for me, and coincides with a fun life change: I am taking a leave this summer to go just be a dad I am gonna try to delete this app from my phone and just live my life. I will probably fail at this. But I think it's a nice goal
To spell it out, this has the potential to be a really big deal. It could help make end-to-end encryption the default for a new generation of collaboration apps the same way the Signal protocol has end-to-end encrypted Signal and WhatsApp conversations on billions of phones.

How interesting that Meta called @wired.com "dishonest" and then (quietly) removed the face-recognition system it had previously (also quietly) integrated into an app downloaded onto 50 million phones. Dishonest!

A question no-doubt shooting across the arts right now: If Ottawa can make $600 million appear for Canadian culture in order to assuage a trading partner, why couldn't it find this kind of money before today to support Canadian culture... for the sake of supporting Canadian culture?

Because the government doesn't have the power to directly tell the CRTC to review this decision specifically, it will have to issue a new general policy direction - meaning it's unclear what that means for two years of work the CRTC has done under the previous one
