Heat pumps are winning Americans over. In the first quarter they outsold fossil-fuel furnaces by 32%, the fourth year running that manufacturers have shipped more heat pumps than furnaces. Nearly half of new US homes built in 2024 came with one. Grist buff.ly/I8XwuLA #ShareGoodNewsToo

The US may be hitting a tipping point for heat pumps

In the first quarter of this year, heat pump sales beat fossil fuel furnaces by 32 percent. Here's what makes the appliance so powerful.

Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

All by herself, my wife concluded that a Kia EV3 will be our next (used) car despite having sat in both the EV5 & EV9. I call that a big win. The dealer helped by saying that the battery in the 5 was the same as the 3 which will go further and a little bit faster! 7 yr warranty for the win. Proud.

In NI, we've no access to the BUS Scheme. Smart Meters only rolling out in 2028. We also have (by a wide margin) the highest penetration rate of oil fired central heating in Western Europe (c. 60%). I moved to gas (from oil) in 2021 when our area got access to the (still expanding!) gas pipeline.

Very pleased to have been featured in this detailed article on the UK's heat pump market and why growth for this year is looking sluggish, primarily the cut of the Energy Company Obligation Scheme and no replacement yet. www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/aa87389...

This, from @akshatrathi.bsky.social, is correct for commercial and industrial PV installations but I think domestic installations are different. Self-consumption, mainly with EVs and heat pumps, can still win compared to negative wholesale prices thanks to the avoidance of taxes and grid fees.
