Colleagues and I address a recent phylogenetic & evolutionary hypothesis on mosquito evolution (from Pierce et al. 2025), namely that the two subfamilies of mosquitoes were not reciprocally monophyletic, and that Culex and Anopheles were sister to one another. We do not agree.
