Ward 2 City Councilor, Somerville MA. Pronoun ambivalent.

Fun fact: if the Mayor ever actually enforced the Vacant Property Ordinance (2019) it would require regular inspections by ISD which could identify hazardous conditions and compel the owner to repair or condemn and demolish. The law exists. Ask @mayorjakewilson.bsky.social when it will get enforced

Serious question: is Somerville going to just let New Asia collapse and put people in danger like the building next to Liberty cannabis or are they going to make the owner safely dismantle it?

Oh, you mean to say that it is wholly insufficient for a City Council to have to rely upon a City Attorney who works for and is beholden to the executive branch as their sole legal advisor? Hmm. I recall saying this for many years, and yet when we had the chance to address this in the Charter...

I have genuine sympathy for the St. Paul City Council Members who relied on the shoddy counsel given to them. It's a tough way to learn that, in a strong mayor system, the City Attorney's office is not a neutral and impartial advisor. A good lesson that looking outside the exec branch can be helpful

Don't sell him short: he also obliterated our international diplomatic and trade agreements, cost countless lives around the world, gutted our environmental and public health institutions, rolled back regulations and consumer protections, and extended the war in Ukraine while undermining our allies.

And what did he spend the other 30% of his limited mental capacity on? 1. Cheating at golf. 2. Bilking taxpayers via tariffs. 3. The Iran War. 4. Taking bribes. 5. Using the government to self-deal. 6. Tax breaks for his pals. That's it. He's by far the worst POTUS in history.

It’s so funny when people are like “sure you’re an abolitionist now but wait until you’re the victim of a property crime.” Buddy, the most useful thing the police have ever done for property crime is put the form you need to submit to your insurance online.

Little known fact: I am also an Eagle Scout. I have complicated feelings about the history of BSA and the current SA, and literally no one has asked for my opinion about this. But it sucks, AND I understand that they are steering a big ship through some dangerous waters. The thing is...

I’m an Eagle scout and the father of an Eagle scout. This is a shameful act of giving in to a bully and failing to stand by your young members. apnews.com/article/scou...

The state police finally got back to me about my request from March and said "wow, that's a lot of data, we're working on it real hard and maybe next month we'll give you another update." In case anybody wanted a real world example of public records requests for video held by the police.

An email from the state police saying that they are working on my request and need more time before providing any responses at all.

The council is in executive session, apparently being told -exactly- how much money we're going to lose by tapping out on 90 Washington right now. Keep using it to store snow until interest rates come down, says me. Don't give in to the sunk cost fallacy. 42/?
