Today is Venn Day, in celebration of the mathematician John Venn, born on this day in 1834. To commemorate the occasion, here’s a poem in the form of a Venn Diagram.
A genuine, human-written #poem about the killing of books for the sake of AI’s bottomless hunger.
Hard to be an old book lately, I tell you what. #sonnet

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

“Cat carving” is the art of meticulously carving wooden statues of cats that capture their attractive gestures, poses and expressions. These cat statues were created by Japanese woodcarving artist Makoto Nishi.
Once, I wrote a book that people a. liked and b. found helpful It was called STARVE BETTER. The new edition—with two new chapters—is here! I am an amazon hater but you are all amazon lovers, AND amazon won't take down the old link to a single used copy, so www.amazon.com/Starve-Bette...

In this age of social media where so many want to get noticed, I can't help but think of Virginia Woolf's words, “No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself.”
Hey there! Did you see The Odyssey? Are you haunted by Penelope's veiled and screened existence? If you can't stop thinking about Homer, this might be a good time to reread my Pushcart-winning poem, "Poem in Which I Fail to Teach Homer!" www.cottonxenomorph.com/journal/2021...

"In search of new IP, Hollywood is now adapting all of Dostoyevsky's literature into the shared Fyodoriverse. The flagship film will be the Russo brothers' Notes from the Underground, but other blockbusters include Michael Bay's The Devils and Christopher Nolan's The Idiot."
I give thanks to Zeus—great Jupiter Tonans—who brought a great storm that stopped our showing at a narrative-appropriate moment. The whole theater was holding its breath, waiting to see what happened. 30 minute break!
Everyone got mad at me when I suggested it for AVENGERS: ENDGAME. But intermissions add to the experience that you’re watching something special. Shorter movies than THE ODYSSEY have had them. There’s a perfect break in the movie for it, too.
My Odyssey and Iliad translations are available as audiobooks, read/ performed by very talented real people: Claire Danes and Audra MacDonald. They do a much better job than the robots! www.audible.com/pd/The-Iliad...

THE ODYSSEY is very good and you should go see it in the theater. It’s the best climate grief/end of liberal democracy think piece you’ll see all year, and also an interesting adaptation of the epic poem.
A good post. I’ve taken thousands of photographs, in the way that many people do, though I don’t consider myself a photographer. The successes, such as they are, have been pleasing, but the overall process description tracks with my experience in other arts, writing above all.
Most photographs are not very good. Not yours. Not mine. The difference is not that successful photographers avoid failure. It is that they accept it, learn from it, and build their photographic practice around it.' - Benedict Brain www.digitalcameraworld.com/photography/...

The dirty secret about great photography… most of it is rubbish!
Ansel Adams only expected to take 12 good photos a year, and you should be happy with that too
