Bizarrely I have just stumbled across a 2005 version of Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont on Prime Video. It has Joan Plowright in it and it is described as heartwarming, nostalgic, and a comedy drama. I am assuming it's dreadful. Can anyone confirm? @andrewmale.bsky.social @iammilliam.bsky.social

I've just read Rumer Godden's Battle of the Villa Fiorita. It was great - I 'd forgotten how beautifully she writes, particularly about children on the cusp of adolescence. Pretty sure it was a recommendation from here - but who was it? @backlisted.bsky.social was it you? Tangentially perhaps?

A trained clown by trade, he used a theater technique called grammelot, which consists of "speaking" in a mix of babbled gibberish noises. He improvised all the voices live and unscripted.
