A classic 1973 Bruce Pennington cover to ‘Children of Tomorrow,’ by A. E. van Vogt.
For some reason I am watching "The Glittering Prizes" a 1976 British tv drama about a group of 1950's Cambridge graduates and their subsequent adult lives. To say it's "aged badly" isn't quite right. It's like an artifact from an almost unimaginably distant time ...
I haven't seen a Elizabeth Taylor performance from this period I don't really admire.
Overheard, man shouting outside the house: “Oh God! I knew that was going to happen! I knew it! I knew it!”
Learning the piano in the mornings & about ADOLF HITLER in the afternoons. Probably should have gone to the Algarve because there is no topless here.
I saw @andrewmale.bsky.social ‘s review for Primal Scream’s “Vanishing Point” from Select magazine posted online yesterday. It took me right back to reading it at 6th form college - how the words on the page enthralled, and made perfect sense when I first listened to the album.
I forgot to repost this so I hope BlueSky’s Celia Fremlin fans didn’t miss it. The Hitchcock Hours are also on Now TV if you have access to that.
CELIA FREMLIN ALERT! (fao @jacquiwine.bsky.social and @andrewmale.bsky.social among others) Next Tuesday, August 2nd, at 14:00 Sky Arts are showing The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, S1 E23, 'The Lonely Hours', an adaptation of 'The Hours Before Dawn'. Starring Gena Rowlands!
People who know: a) Hackney, and b) my taste in pubs (cosy, real ale, dogs, no sports, no TV, no live music, no loud music, maybe burgers) What is the best pub in walking distance of the Moth Club?
Bede's World! Bede's World! Party time! Venerable!
A few weeks ago I realized that tomorrow is the date the Ray Bradbury story “There Will Come Soft Rains” takes place. It’s a shame science fiction from 75 years ago isn’t relevant anymore
There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury
The voice-clock sang, breakfast was ejected, but no doors slammed. The garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. The house sat alone in a city of rubble and…

1 like = a giggly, self-deprecating lovable fact about me. 1 repost = a massive fucking thread about that time I did something incredibly noble but don't like to talk about it on social media as I'm a bit shy. 1 repost then an hour later unrepost then repost again = 150 amazingly banal facts about m
[whisper-sings] "Vera Duckworth cast a spell on me/ T-Rex and the ANC/I've never really been set free/ Cos Vera Duckworth cast a spell on me." [keening synths, minimalist percussion to fade]
Every review of a new Luke Haines album reads like its been written by the same cabal of proprietorial music journalists. All of them praising this "wilfully obtuse" "mercurial genius" "operating on his own wavelength", but repeatedly mistaking arch subject matter for songcraft.
I think my least favourite trope in modern TV might be “comedy Eastern European gangsters”.
One of the greatest non-Fall Peel sessions, for sure. If there was ever a band that deserves retroactive canonization by an obsessive latter-day micro-cult, it’s them.
My parents were so strict about swearing in the house that I hid the 12” of (We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang for fear they would read the obscene lyric “don’t just sit there on your ass” youtu.be/Q49BjlSOCGE?...

Parents! What's the WORST swearword you'd be comfortable with your 8-12 year old reading in a story? Where do we stand on "arse"? (please be as prissy as you like, I'm trying to balance "word I want to use" with "can I be arsed with the complaints"?)

SCENE: A man runs panicking from a murder scene. He knows he is the murderer's next victim. He runs to a phone box to call the police and leave the clue that will catch his killer. He flings open the door -
