I sort of hoped that the internet and the huge, open documentation of the horrors and backstory of Ukraine (or on, say, the USSR) would lead the crank-left to reassess. Its not deniable. But then you realise the Webbs etc looked at the atrocities of Stalinism full in the face and ignored it.

a lot of their domestic political ideas are delusional too, but the FP stuff is totally beneath contempt. and, the thing is, its also been 100 years. they’re still weighed down by campism, including somehow still making apologies for Russia. in a decade we be at 100 yr anniversary of Holodomor

Why was the Jason Arday story broken by a racist blogger and not the mainstream press? Because Times Higher Education was intimidated off the story by a letter from notorious libel firm Carter-Ruck. I'm publishing the letter. Its central claim may be false.

Has anyone read anything good on why the east coast is such fertile ground for the extreme right? (Lincolnshire, East Anglia, the Essex and Kent coasts) Demographics aren't wildly different to other areas where it's much less pronounced.

Rather concerningly, the lawyer for the Tate brothers has confused “extradition” with “execution”. Young lawyers note - be careful not to do this in court.

Salford pioneered play streets, traffic-free from 8am till sunset (borrowed from New York) in the 1930s. Legislation followed: there were 700 in England and Wales in the 1950s, all but forgotten by the 1980s.

Not surprised to see the leader of the Conservatives being so dismissive about the very important role of local councillors btw, it’s her party that systematically attempted to destroy local government and all that it does

What a repulsive man. I had eye problems. Everything from routine cataract surgery and laser work for retinopathy in both eyes, to a vitrectomy. Some of the surgeons and nurses didn't have flawless English. But as they were busy saving my eyesight, it would have seemed churlish to whine about it...
