I don't normally feel affected by celebrity deaths, but Dolly Parton feels different, somehow. She was the best of us all. RIP Dolly, you absolute legend ❤️

xAI shipped Grok Voice Think Fast 2.0 yesterday. 82.9% on the AA speech-to-speech index, 0.70s to first audio, top agentic score on the board. The interesting part is at the bottom of the announcement, and it costs you money.

Thought for the day: It never ceases to amaze me how today's techbros' vision of the future they want defaults to fully automated leopard-face-chomping neo-feudalism rather than fully automated luxury gay space communism.

When I was a kid, my Gran bought a toaster. On the packaging, it said "With 8-bit microchip!" I've been using a clockwork toaster for the past 22 years with no complaints. Seriously, if AI doesn't improve your product, don't add AI to it.

A Russell Hobbs Microchip "Country Style" toaster.

To whoever at Coca-Cola who decided their FIFA sponsorship meant no espresso in the whole Vancouver Fanzone: Fuck you, and all of your descendants.

The thing that isn't being reported is that the survey was written in such a biased way it was actually VERY DIFFICULT to object. If the survey had been well-written, the results would be even worse.

Paris consistently racks as number one for attractiveness to tourists globally in the Euromonitor study (I’ll share a link in the the next post), but in volume terms it’s no slouch either - it’s in the top ten for international visitors too. It’s awesome to have such a visible city as this example.

“Air pollution fell substantially as Paris restricted car traffic and made way for parks, people-streets and bike-lanes.” Better for the climate, better for health, better for livability and quality of life. Common sense. Such a no-brainer, it’s remarkable that more cities HAVEN’T done the same.

A known problem of agentic coding tools is decision exhaustion – where the user is constantly hitting 'yes' to decisions, and gets sloppy. (There's a better term for this, but I forget)

Working on a new talk/video and I have harnessed the power of impossibly large neural networks to reliably always output one thing: cheese or onion?
