"...Mothers’ likelihood of being employed in academia 8 years after they became parents was 29% lower than the likelihood if they hadn’t had children. The mothers who stayed in academia were 23% less likely to obtain tenure 8 years after having their first child than had they not become parents." 👩🏻‍🔬🧪

If the press was willing to take their cues from Nathan Cofnas, a culture warrior who self-describes as a 'race realist', it's hardly surprising they paid no heed to Jason Arday's humanity and the potential impact of their hounding. Meanwhile so many senior white scholars have gotten away with worse

Jason Arday is dead. The UK media won’t learn a thing from this. Because they’re racist bastards. He has two children.

Who could have seen this coming? Oh wait... When education becomes governed by the invisible hand and students become clients, they are free to take their business elsewhere, especially if they're being taught by tired, stressed, over-worked and under-funded ppl www.theguardian.com/education/20...

This is not a crisis of universities but an utter failure of government. If Labour was serious about turning UKHE around they could (by removing the overseas student levy, to start). UKHE is in absolute freefall and is in completely danger of becoming unrecoverable.

Starting a Fellowship on the poetry of the tirailleurs sénégalais and its erasure from archives/historiography. Can't say where and with whom yet👀 Looking for ways to share this (& earlier work) outside academia — if you host a podcast or know one that might want to dig into this, I'd love to talk!

Nothing like inspiration hitting mid-nappy change and finally being able to write the introduction to an article about war poetry's post-canon status in English and canon-shaped hole in French. Now let's see if I can actually conceptualise those things!

moderne.video.blog/2026/02/25/v...

Reason number 848372 why maternity leave should be extended: in an article written 2 months postpartum, I call Bakary Diallo and Léopold Sedar Senghor "pètes" instead of "poètes". There is something published out there with my name on it calling the father of négritude a fart.
