A great blue heron tosses its catch to reposition it before swallowing. The photo shows the head and neck of the GBH with the beak facing left and open. The large fish is suspended between the upper and lower bits of the beak As required , the background is a wall of green leaves

A male Eurasian Blackbird perches on the weathered top of a broken wooden fence post, its glossy black plumage slightly fluffed to reveal layers of soft, textured feathers. It’s one of the gems of our fair city. On our first visit many years ago, we bought our day ticket and walk through the gate and walked about 30 steps into the garden. We then turned around, went back to the ticket seller, and asked if we could exchange these towards an annual pass.
