Just want to remind everyone that the Mayor cut 200 critical jobs which will result in significant service cuts at a time when Portlanders need govt the most, meanwhile he kept 70 vacancies in the police bureau even though per PPB's own staffing report they will NOT fill most of those positions. 🙃

Wanted to clip this bit from my last video: I want EVERYONE to consider running for some office somewhere, even and ESPECIALLY if you have never considered it. One way out of where we find ourselves is to have more people from more backgrounds, cultures, places, and perspectives representing us.

Zohran Mamdani has appointed former FTC Chair Lina Khan to lead New York City's top economic development agency. Her understanding of how corporate power undermines economic freedom, which she examines in the video below, make her a perfect fit. Watch.

Mayor Wilson Thanks City Council
For Passage of Seattle Transit Measure Renewal

“Right now, our transit system is breaking records and delivering real value for our families. I appreciate City Council’s partnership in crafting a package to voters offering a low-cost way to bring people more and better of the cheapest travel option available, public transit. It’s a package that respects people’s hard-earned dollars and brings 100,000 more bus trips to Seattle every year and funds 22,000 free transit passes for low-income households.

Next week, we will gather in City Hall so I can sign the bill and send it to voters for their consideration this November. To everyone who showed up and helped shape the Seattle Transit Measure – I also say thank you, and congratulations.”

It’s gonna be hot for the next few days. Putting out extra cold water, in one of the many free fridges across Multnomah County, is one of the best ways to help our neighbors who don’t have access to reliable electricity or refrigeration stay comfortable through the heat. Salty snacks, also helpful.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani in his address at the Nelson Mandela Global Leadership Forum: “Why must we wait until a thousand more parents bury in their children? Until even more lose their limbs, their homes, their futures, to come together and insist on Palestinian freedom?“

Portland: everyone who is seriously thinking of using our CLEAN ENERGY FUND to bribe our basketball team to not leave town needs to know that our transit agency is on track to cut nearly 1/3 of its service from what it was in 2025. Which is the greater crisis?

This is horrible - the 20% of Portlanders with the lowest income are not only deeply cost burdened, but are cost smothered. IN 2024, the MEDIAN rent was 100% of household income! This is so profoundly cruel and the situation needs to be addressed with the urgency it deserves.

the strongest evidence I have seen that favorable rents trends aren't translating for all renters is in census microdata, where we can see that rent burdens have risen post-covid for 1st and 2nd quintile earners

chart showing rent burden at each income quintile. most are basically flat, with a gentle increase for 20-40 and a decrease for 60-80. the bottom 20% increases dramatically between 2023 and 2024

Multiple conversations with different reporters: "why are housing prices so out of control in Oregon?" "we've got problems but actually, this is something Oregon is doing well at, here are the numbers" "huh OK well that's not a story I can tell. Nobody would care" Frustrating!
