Got to take a quick look at the new Amtrak Airo trains as they passed through Portland. They look so great!! Excited for my next opportunity to travel #bytrain @amtrakcascades.wsdot.wa.gov
I hadn’t seen this yet. This is beyond awful.
Police murdered a Black man in the street in Madison WI today. Shot point blank in the head while on the ground, tased, and surrounded by four cops. It looks like an execution. Multiple videos circulating online. Things are about to get very bad here.
Yoooo last night of charging the ankle monitor 💯👀🔥 #huge
Just want to remind everyone that the Mayor cut 200 critical jobs which will result in significant service cuts at a time when Portlanders need govt the most, meanwhile he kept 70 vacancies in the police bureau even though per PPB's own staffing report they will NOT fill most of those positions. 🙃
We choose to build bike lanes in this city not because it’s easy, but because we want to make driving hard.
alert, alert, not a drill, the shiny new train is coming through Portland tomorrow
Want to see the new train in the wild? Test run tomorrow, 7/23, between Seattle and Eugene. Schedule in comments. We appreciate tags if you catch pics or video. #train #newtrain #photograpy🚄🚉📷💚🤎🤍🥳
Wanted to clip this bit from my last video: I want EVERYONE to consider running for some office somewhere, even and ESPECIALLY if you have never considered it. One way out of where we find ourselves is to have more people from more backgrounds, cultures, places, and perspectives representing us.
Zohran Mamdani has appointed former FTC Chair Lina Khan to lead New York City's top economic development agency. Her understanding of how corporate power undermines economic freedom, which she examines in the video below, make her a perfect fit. Watch.

The conservative councilors demonstrate a profound disdain for compromise and good governance. Infuriating. @councilorkanal.bsky.social demonstrates an attitude of leadership and understanding that reaches across the aisle, despite the conservatives' reprehensible, irresponsible politicking.
First up, we have public comment. Portlanders spoke about concerns with public safety, advocating to save the Keller, concerns with potential fraud at the state government, and a goodbye from Jacob Hoopes.
Just gave public testimony for the first time. Unfortunately gonna be the last time for a while.

There is just way too much space given to vehicles in NYC for a pedestrian city. It's absurd. Farcical.
Right now, our transit system is breaking records and delivering real value for our families. I appreciate City Council’s partnership in crafting a package to voters offering a low-cost way to bring people more and better of the cheapest travel option available, public transit.
Everyone likes free stuff. Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but I believe if TriMet was free ridership would skyrocket.
Portland needs this vibe for removing asphalt and planting trees - shred all of the permits, err on the side of green
NYC’s small business owners have said it over and over: endless paperwork and uncertainty has made getting their stores up and running too difficult. So we’re cutting red tape, eliminating redundant permits (did you know you need a permit just to serve some ice cream?), and speeding up inspections.
Councilor Eric Zimmerman likely committed a felony by trading contributions (but won’t be prosecuted), according to the Oregonian
About a dozen candidates for Portland City Council and mayor traded contributions, potentially violating state election law. https://mrf.lu/2TPmF
Crazy idea that violates the *LAWS OF NATURE* What if we just in the span of a couple days replaced all the on street parking on Inner Hawthorne with more pedestrian space? Just slap down some precast concrete curbs? The sidewalks are so narrow! Its embarrassing.
Related: @counciloravalos.bsky.social and I intend to submit this letter to the Commission. We discussed in committee today to ask for more signatories, so a version of this letter will go out tomorrow with hopefully more names. Please consider supporting this appeal as well. Thanks.

It’s gonna be hot for the next few days. Putting out extra cold water, in one of the many free fridges across Multnomah County, is one of the best ways to help our neighbors who don’t have access to reliable electricity or refrigeration stay comfortable through the heat. Salty snacks, also helpful.
A 0.5 FAR bump to a 2.5 base creates a realistic baseline for medium-density multi-dwelling projects. This makes it easier for projects like single stair buildings.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani in his address at the Nelson Mandela Global Leadership Forum: “Why must we wait until a thousand more parents bury in their children? Until even more lose their limbs, their homes, their futures, to come together and insist on Palestinian freedom?“
Portland: everyone who is seriously thinking of using our CLEAN ENERGY FUND to bribe our basketball team to not leave town needs to know that our transit agency is on track to cut nearly 1/3 of its service from what it was in 2025. Which is the greater crisis?

This is horrible - the 20% of Portlanders with the lowest income are not only deeply cost burdened, but are cost smothered. IN 2024, the MEDIAN rent was 100% of household income! This is so profoundly cruel and the situation needs to be addressed with the urgency it deserves.
the strongest evidence I have seen that favorable rents trends aren't translating for all renters is in census microdata, where we can see that rent burdens have risen post-covid for 1st and 2nd quintile earners
Don't know why it took me this long to look for it. But yeah. Taylor Farms uses prison slave labor. www.prisonlegalnews.org/news/2023/ju...
We’re in this weird period where the dream of the 90s is once again alive in Portland but nobody’s really noticed yet
Multiple conversations with different reporters: "why are housing prices so out of control in Oregon?" "we've got problems but actually, this is something Oregon is doing well at, here are the numbers" "huh OK well that's not a story I can tell. Nobody would care" Frustrating!
