I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."

Academics - how do you go through an inbox with three weeks of messages that have piled up? Looking for tips to manage the expected volume in an efficient and effective way.
It’s so hard for me to imagine anybody with expertise in public health, or history, or technology, equating the public health impact of AI with VACCINES and SANITATION.
OMG: “The integration of AI into our systems, from predictive modeling to community health engagement, is as significant as the development of modern sanitation or the expansion of vaccinations in the previous century.” I can’t… I just can’t. @jackiantonovich.bsky.social

Some news stores just get under your skin. Very sad to see the outcome of the Chris Baghsarian kidnapping today with his likely remains being found in Sydney. Appreciate all the efforts to try to find him, including SES (son searching yesterday buzzed by news helicopter).
As I’m, always, harping on. You owe no one your attention. You, particularly, don’t owe parasocial contacts your attention. There are ways to lessen your stress on social media and in online interactions, but, you must be proactive. Mute, block, move on, let it go. Your overall health will improve.
Yet another good reason to mute or block the trolls in your life These negative social ties--known as 'hasslers"--are chronic stressors and are linked to impaired physical health and faster aging. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

Agree - calling it a CDC action is false.
Once again, I implore media outlets to stop saying these are CDC decisions. These are changes being made unilaterally by RFK Jr. against the expert advice of CDC scientists. I note that RFK Jr. no longer recommends flu vaccine for kids in the midst of a horrible influenza year.

Cabinet papers 2005: John Howard’s government was warned in 2005 that schools and borders might need to be shut under a pandemic

Previously unreleased cabinet papers made public by the National Archives of Australia on Thursday show planning for an influenza pandemic reached all the way to the national security committee of federal cabinet in October 2005. The discussions, two years after the Sars viral respiratory disease spread across Asia, presaged much of the response as Covid-19 spread around the world. Continue reading...

This is what hepatitis B vaccination is about.
When I was a medical student 45 years ago, I clerked in a 13 year old girl with deep jaundice and an abdominal mass. She was Hepatitis B positive. That had led to a primary liver tumour. In a 13-year-old. She was dead within the month. Avoidable with vaccination.
