By The Numbers: Holt Liberals Virtual Care vs. eVisitNB -Daily Consults: up to 90 vs. 600-1,000 -NPs: 52 vs. 165 Holt Liberals cut access by 91% when ~200,000 of New Brunswick’s 860,000 residents don’t have a family doctor. Make this make sense. #nbpoli tj.news/new-brunswic...

Virtual health care firm's chief operating officer says failings of government's chosen replacement are obvious

I’m fascinated to see where the Conservative Party goes now that they’ve been outflanked on the right by the liberals. Maybe conservatives are poised to become the new centrist party? Crumble entirely & try to rebrand? Go extreme right?
Bitter infighting within federal Conservative Party. Why did Poilievre et al not pivot towards trade issues in last elxn campaign? Perhaps because they see Trump as their hero, not as a threat. www.hilltimes.com/2026/07/20/i...

It will never reach eVisitNB scale under the current design. Never #nbpoli “Dornan said the new Virtual Care NB is averaging 50 consultations per day and is growing. eVisitNB was seeing 600 patients a day and upward of 1,000 daily during cold and flu season.” www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The story keeps being written: we learned yesterday that the medical society wants to be paid for prescription renewals under Virtual Care NB. Holt Government did not merely replace a platform. It replaced an operating model & appears to have understood the model only after turning it off. #nbpoli
A (last-minute?) media availability is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Virtual Care NB. I hope the minister comes with data to show the last 2 weeks haven't been anything short of a downgrade. Ideally, they bring back eVisitNB. #nbpoli Triage Theatre Is Not Health Care open.substack.com/pub/thomjeff...
I hate this for us. New Brunswickers are officially seeking private out of pocket paid primary healthcare services en masse due to the clusterfuck virtual care nb rollout
Used Maple instead. We now officially have a 2 tier public private health care system.
Data centers should be charged 2-3x the rate for electricity, and residents should be charged greatly reduced rates wherever they exist. Data centers must be zoned outside of all residential and public commerce areas and subject to all environmental impact report requirements & regulations.
This is not access to healthcare! This is “triage theatre” (Great term @thomjeff.bsky.social & exactly right to describe this “service”!)
⚕️For both tests, none offered an option to book an appointment to chat or speak with anyone. Both felt like I am navigating a flow chart or decision tree, which is fine is the outcome was I can speak with someone. Like eVisitNB. It doesn’t. Why? Well, it tells you… #nbpoli +
Virtual Care NB sounds good on paper: connected, guided, integrated. But if there is no doc to see, no clinic appointment, no alternative to an overcrowded ER, what exactly is it connecting people to? That is not access. That is triage theatre. #nbpoli thomjeffwrites.substack.com

From what I hear, the new Virtual Care NB “service” basically just roadblocks patients or tells them to go to a walk-in clinic or the ER. Well done to the NB gov’t, taking a bandaid service that worked pretty well and gutting it while clogging up ERs and leaving patients stranded.

I WANT in person. I WANT to not have to drive to GD MONCTON from Freddy for a 15m appointment with someone who gives no fucks about my care, to BEG for a conversation about my 'complex' condition (ADHD/periM/LC). But in lieu of that, eVisitNB was a good/decent solution. This new version is NOT.
I am so furious about the state of healthcare access in NB. This new virtual care thing is a mess. I’ve been waiting YEARS for a primary care provider. Just trying to book a Pap smear, which I’m overdue for, is a nightmare.
Someone mapped out all the conditions and questions that result in an evisit (not to circumvent the system but to help navigate)
It’s time for the city to take action & re-instate fluoridated water in Saint John.
Years without fluoridated water have led to an increase in cavities. In a province with one of the lowest median incomes, refusing to pay for fluoridation is counter-intuitive. We shouldn't let paranoia make our decisions. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
