That's home. That's us.

listen i love ao3 as much as the next guy but ive seen people quit fic writing over the past few years because people comment and engage with authors way less, and then everyone still freaks out when ao3 goes down- if a fic is irreplaceable to u, let the author know!

[update] Investigating: AO3 is currently down. We do not have an estimated return time currently. We're looking into it with one of our third-party support providers and will update when we have more information. Thank you for your patience!

I'm having one of those days where I am frustrated because for most of the major political questions the issue is not that we don't have answers, the issue is that people with money and power simply ignore the answers because they don't like them

"The greatest danger to our future is apathy. You may be overcome, however, by feelings of helplessness. You are just one person in a world of 6 billion. How can your actions make a difference? Best, you say, to leave it to decision makers. And so you do nothing." Overcome apathy with hope. 🪶

You must never support laws that criminalize free expression even when the ideas and concepts that freedom enables the expression of are things which you personally find disgusting. Morality is subjective. Suffering is not. You cannot use a subjective idea like purity to justify objective pain.

Even if incest kinks aren’t your thing and even if you find it disgusting or weird, this is dangerous. They’ve come after strangulation and seem to be coming for more. This isn’t about “safety” it’s about controlling online anonymity and further shaming sexuality. Wishing my friends in the UK luck ❤️

well, it’s official they’re looking to make possession worth up to 2 years in prison, 5 years for publishing/sharing im really upset and idk what to do

As someone who's literal job is teaching people how to write, yes I will absolutely shame you for using AI to write your shit. It's just Plagiarism with extra steps and doe literally nothing for you. I would rather my students use Spark Notes and Wikipedia

If you're using AI to write essays, eulogies, a text to your wife, I do think less of you as a person. Ceding your mental and creative abilities to a machine is an embarrassing thing and people should be ashamed to admit doing it in public.

[quoting a tweet by fractalcounty that reads, “today I learned that there are actual people irl who get genuinely upset if they catch you using chatgpt. like they view it as a serious moral failing in certain circles”]

always so funny to me when people are like “how am I supposed to explain Gay to my kids?” my kid asks me way harder shit all the time. “why did they build the road this way? why are some people bad?” I don’t know. please ask me about Gay

The stance that bad people make bad art is really just going to hurt you when inevitably, if you like ANY art at all, you’re gonn run into someone who’s great at it who sucks Acknowledging bad people can make good art is vital to accepting when someone tells you an artist you like has done wrong

one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.
