People are wild because what do you mean you wrote a 1000 word screed in a professional newsletter about a subject and now that people are calling you out about it you’re freely admitting you know nothing about said topic? Anyway, y’all should creep on the HWA Facebook group 👀 it’s a good time.

Airing COGENT dissenting opinions is an org's newsletter--that's part of the org's job. BUT this is an emotional rant, poorly thought out, adding nothing. The editor should've done a better job.
There is a lengthy pro-AI screed in the latest HWA newsletter and it is . . . a mood.
I keep thinking about that Publisher's Marketplace article on AI in publishing and how the only two books that have been publicly challenged are two self-published books by Black women that did well and I cannot think that is a coincidence.
Congrats to @mauricebroaddus.bsky.social and the entire GCWS team (volunteers, speakers, everyone) for what everyone is saying was a fantastic weekend!
FYI that this year's Gen Con Writers Symposium has been the best and most diverse conference in years, with writers and readers packing panels and workshops. Props to @mauricebroaddus.bsky.social and the GCWS staff for doing such amazing work! 3/
There is no version of yourself you could become that would satisfy the people who hate you. So you might as well be who you are.
The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.
The Diarrhea Lettuce Company Has Been Linked to Forced Labor
The lettuce-producing Taylor Farms was linked to the widespread use of prison labor before its involvement in a cyclospora outbreak.

I keep reading posts about people changing how they write to avoid sounding like AI but if my writing sounds like AI it’s because they stole my shit. And if you change how you write, they’re just gonna steal that shit, too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Using lists of three is not an "AI tell." It's a common trait in human writing because our brains biologically want to make sure there's always one thing to marry, one thing to fuck, and one thing to murder.
Look, this story is bananas. A whole bunch of people read an AI manuscript and wanted to throw money at it. But the craziest thing here is that PUBLISHERS MARKETPLACE RAN AN AUTHOR’S MANUSCRIPT THROUGH AN AI DETECTOR. Like, WTF are we doing here, guys?
At some point those of you on here are going to attempt Threads. I am here to tell you there is nothing there for you. I’ve spent the past few months on Threads and honestly it is a hive of bots and misinformation. Just a little more curated than the hellsite. Maybe I’ll blog about it. 😂
Tomorrow! GenCon Day 1. Let’s talk about Media Tie In Work. It’ll be fun. See you there!🥳
Shared this year's passport for the Philly Bookstore Crawl, and wow did it come out lovely. It's less than a month away, we've got almost sixty bookshops. There are mini-festivals, industry talks, concerts, and more. Angus Andrews designed it. They’re amazing. www.phillybookstorecrawl.com
"Writers have been using me long before AI. I am the punctuation equivalent of a cardigan—beloved by MFA grads, used by editors when it’s actually cold, and worn year-round by screenwriters. I am not new here. I am not novel. I’m the cigarette you keep saying you’ll quit."

The He-Man movie was great. The terminally online fanboys apparently just don‘t understand fun. 👎🏽
I'm THRILLED about this gorgeous review. What a pleasure to be seen--both myself and my work--so clearly. When people ask me who I hope will read HOLLOWAY, my answer is: Everyone. I want everyone to read my book.
Read @chasingray.bsky.social’s review of HOLLOWAY by @elanakarnold.bsky.social: “Ultimately, this is a coming-of-age novel like no other and a singular achievement for Elana K. Arnold.”

Hi, expert on far-right extremism here, a history of domestic violence and misogyny is one of the strongest predictive variables for violent extremism, especially on the right. We've been raising the alarm on this for DECADES but no one cares.
Misogyny is an increasing factor in far-right attacks, but it often goes unnoticed.
