Hi. DOJ has amply earned your distrust, it's true. (And sad.) But it's not necessary to freak out whenever they twitch. They're sending a handful of folks in suits to watch Michigan elections today. That's all. Will someone lie about what they see? Probably. Will it change even one vote? Nope.

This is also why measuring turnout effects, while a valuable _part_ of estimating the impact of a particular electoral policy, is never the whole story. It’s just (despite real difficulties in showing causation) the most easily quantified. Which is different.

Reminder that making it harder for a group to vote is a tax, and even if they pay the tax - even if they're more likely to vote and pay the tax than they had been to vote originally - it's still an added cost that falls on only some citizens. (I guess I should add: That's bad and undemocratic).
