I prefer Mastodon but this is a fine “we have Mastodon at home” I guess.

SPREAD FAR AND WIDE. Multiple calls lately, looking for scarce books. "The cheapest copy online is $200!" Book prices are artificially inflated now due to AI purchasing 🚨 An INDIE BOOKSHOP can tell you whether the current price is reasonable or whether you should wait for the market to stabilize.

I think it also revealed just how quickly a bunch of otherwise very hard problems can be to solve with global collective action. The fuckin Ganga was running clear water for the only time in my lifetime because for 2 weeks nobody threw garbage in it. The canals in Venice had fish.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

thinking about how ppl quit bosses but also the reverse- I know ppl who will not switch jobs because they love the person they report to so much plus in the current employment market a manager who won't throw you under the bus and stands up for you in the workplace is worth more than a salary hike

there is no reason to self police language around jk rowling. she commits atrocities on a level that even history's greatest monsters could not fathom achieving. if you acknowledge this, she'll go after you. if you stay silent on this, eventually she'll go after you. so just say it out loud.

even taking it as a good faith exercise it just feels like silly semantics because ok so what if it is just a social construct, so is race and you still gotta fill out that line on every form in this country and the current govt is obsessed with it as the determinant of all policy

Channel 4 has announced documentary “The Great ADHD Myth?” It “seeks to determine whether ADHD is a genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct.”

Back in 2020, as a pediatric hematologist married to a physician, we signed up to volunteer in a field hospital for patients with COVID. We wrote our wills and worried about getting our kids sick. I posted about terrifying outcomes in kids and received death threats. Fauci is a goddamn hero.

There are only three possible futures: a) everyone in the Trump admin goes to jail, rule of law partially restored; b) Dems retaliate in full, and maybe that's a deterrent; c) neither (a) nor (b), so lawless authoritarianism wins again, and when Republicans regain power they ramp it up even more.

“Trump has rejected disaster aid for Democratic-run states at the highest rate in the 47-year history of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.” Right now people in blue states are basically paying federal taxes as if they’re colonized territories of red states. www.politico.com/news/2026/03...
