My experiment to raise my ferritin in two months was not only a huge success, but massively life-changing. The current “normal” range for #ferritin is failing women and the chronically ill. We need to make changes to diagnostic testing now. #medsky #hematology #labmedicine #chronicillness #spoonie

The "normal" range for ferritin is failing women. Here is the exact absorption protocol that changed my life as a spoonie and new mom.

I hate that we've memory-holed 2020. My spring 2020 experience was 1) seeing ambulances pulling out dying seniors from a downtown Palo Alto center 2) the GOP's claim of "brutal lockdown" was remote school for only spring/fall 2020, with masked return in Jan-and that was far stricter than most places

Back in 2020, as a pediatric hematologist married to a physician, we signed up to volunteer in a field hospital for patients with COVID. We wrote our wills and worried about getting our kids sick. I posted about terrifying outcomes in kids and received death threats. Fauci is a goddamn hero.

A physician I know would spend their entire day in 2020 tending to people dying from COVID, then go home and have their parents tell them to their face that it was a hoax. When the doctor would try to share what they were seeing, they were dismissed and told they're just confused.

Dear insurance companies, If you don’t cover super important medications, the patient more times than not will end up in the ER and then the hospital and I’m pretty sure those stays cost a lot more than the medication you wouldn’t pay for. Sincerely, Your biggest hater

Wolfers: For nine out of the last 10 presidencies, if you’d said, “How much should we blame the president for what’s going on with the economy right now?” I would have said that the president is just one factor among many. That’s what I would have said nine out of 10 times. This is the 10th time.

PSA: Summer is a tough time for the blood supply as regular donors are traveling and schools (where drives occur) are out. At the same time, accidents requiring massive transfusion are more common. Only 3% of the population donates yet any of us could be in need someday. Donate if you can!

Warning severe shortage with map of USA

PSA: Many patients are waiting long times to see physicians, especially specialists. If you no show your appointment or cancel at the last minute, you are part of the problem. Things come up but it is oh so helpful for the whole system if you can cancel ahead of time or at the very least call.
